Image

Taking a break from politics I decided to go back to Germany and look at a couple items that are interesting and important, especially for those who elect to move there in the future. This video I’m presenting looks at the 21 unwritten rules that one can find in Germany. From recycling, to quiet hours, to crossing the street on green, Germany’s rules have been based on order and protection of the environment and family. And speaking from personal experience, after having lived here for almost 30 years, they make sense.

Watch this video and if you have any other rules worth noting, feel free to comment in the section after the video. 👇

Martial artist turned Hollywood icon, Chuck Norris dies at 86

Image

Chuck Norris, the world-renowned martial arts champion whose transition to the silver screen redefined the “one-man army” archetype and birthed a global television phenomenon, has passed away. He was 86.

Norris was hospitalised in Hawaii on Thursday. His family confirmed the passing via an instagram post published on Norris’ account. In the post, the Norris family noted that the legendary actor was “surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

While the family has requested privacy regarding the specific circumstances of his death, the news has already sent shockwaves through the global entertainment and martial arts communities.

The architect of the action hero

Before he was a household name in Hollywood, Norris was a titan of the tatami. A six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion, he brought a level of technical authenticity to action cinema that few could match.

Norris’ big break came when he starred alongside Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon in 1972. From there, he never looked back. Films like Good Guys Wear Black, An Eye for an Eye and Forced Vengeance established him as a serious action star.

His transition to film saw him take on some of the most culturally significant roles of the 1980s. In cult classics like Missing in Action, The Delta Force, and Invasion U.S.A., Norris became the personification of the lone operative, a stoic that’s an unstoppable force capable of dismantling entire enemy divisions single-handedly. His screen presence was characterized by a quiet intensity, a stark contrast to the explosive pyrotechnics that defined the era’s blockbuster aesthetic.

A decade of ‘walker, texas ranger’

While his film career established his “tough-guy” credentials, it was his foray into television that cemented his status as a permanent fixture in global pop culture. In 1993, Norris took on the role of Cordell Walker in Walker, Texas Ranger.

The series, which ran for nearly a decade, was more than just a procedural; it was a weekly masterclass in morality and martial arts. At its peak, the show was watched by millions every week across over 100 countries, proving that Norris’s brand of justice had a universal appeal that transcended borders and languages.

Even in the twilight of his career, Norris’ influence over the crowds remained undeniable. His appearance in The Expendables 2 (2012) alongside contemporaries like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger served as a high-octane reminder of his enduring bankability in a changing industry.

Off screen, Norris became something of a legend in his own right so much so that the internet spawned an entire genre of jokes in his honour, known as “Chuck Norris facts.” Lines like “Chuck Norris doesn’t do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down” gave him a second wave of fame with a whole new generation.

From Glasnost to Silence: The Collapse of Literary Freedom in Russia

Image

In 1985, when a relatively young party functionary Mikhail Gorbachev became the leader of the Soviet Union, a new era began. Gorbachev started reforms that eventually led to the dissolution of the state and introduced a politics of glasnost (“openness”). Suddenly, things that had long been off-limits could be talked about: Stalinist terror, political prisons, […]

Image

The author of the Files has a special request for you, including especially teachers of Academia:

I’m collecting some stories and information on the use of AI at universities and other institutions of higher education and how you approach it in terms of rules and measures to stop abusing AI and using it as the holy grail. It’s for an article I will write in the near future.

Take a look at this poster below. Each QR code has a set of questions for you to answer. The information will be kept confidential. There is a source page that will help you as well. Answer one or all of the sets. As an alternative you can write your information in the comments section below at the end of this article.

The forum will close at the end of April. In case you have any questions, please let me know by using the contact info in the page About the Files.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this topic.

Word of the Week: Negative Partisanship

Image

This piece that you will read has to do with a term that describes how one side is loyal to the leader and attacks those who oppose him. The term negative partisanship is a psychological term that has less to do with patriotism but more to doing what pleases the leader. The Alabama News Beacon has more on this term and its connection with Trump’s obsession with dividing the country and destroying the fabric of family and friends.

*********

How has Donald Trump managed to become so successful at spreading and promoting hatred among what was once a nation of good and patriotic Americans?

A lot of people ask a hard question: Why do some voters stay fiercely loyal to a political leader even when the facts seem to contradict what that leader says or does?

The answer is less about intelligence and more about human psychology.

Over the past decade, political scientists and organizations like the Pew Research Center have documented a major shift in American politics called “negative partisanship.” Instead of voting primarily because they love their own candidate, many people now vote because they fear or hate the other side more.

When politics becomes about identity — culture, religion, lifestyle, or community — it stops being just about policies like taxes or health care. It becomes about protecting your group.

Once that happens, leaders who loudly attack the “other side” can gain intense loyalty. Their supporters may feel that leader is defending them from people they believe threaten their way of life.

Add in today’s media environment — where many people hear only one version of events through partisan TV, radio, or social media — and the effect becomes even stronger. When you hear the same message every day, it begins to feel like unquestionable truth.

But here’s the important part:

This isn’t unique to one political party or one country. It’s a human behavior seen throughout history whenever societies become deeply polarized.

The real danger is not any one politician.

The danger is when citizens begin to see their neighbors not as fellow Americans, but as enemies. Sadly, this is something the Donald Trump cult capitalizes on most effectively. He and his cult followers have been most successful at showing seeds of hatred among otherwise good and patriotic Americans.

Democracy only works when we remember that disagreement is normal — but dehumanizing each other is not.

If we want a healthier country, the first step is simple:

Listen more.

Verify facts.

And remember that the person on the other side of the political line is still a human being who loves their family and their country just like you do.

Systematic Long-distance Services in Germany 2026

Image

The 2026 long-distanc traffic timetable in Germany is dominated by systematisation. The trains show fewer differences regarding the routes and stops. As I only show connections occurring at least three times a day, this systematisation leads to more lines on my diagram: some single trains that haven’t been shown before, are now grouped together, as […]
