Vox Hunt: Winter Photo

February 26, 2009

Share your favorite winter photograph.

It's a repeat, but it's still my favorite. MomH said of it, "Wow, it makes it look like we live in a pretty place."

Just When You Thought it Was Safe…

February 26, 2009

Elvis hasn't been hiding under the bed at all this week when I leave for work.

He has a check-up at the vet on Monday.

Poor little guy just can't win.

Ostentatious Consumption

February 25, 2009

Earlier this afternoon I was sitting outside a local coffee shop having a meeting while enjoying our unseasonably warm (mid-80s) weather.

This coffee shop happens to be located in a fairly wealthy part of town, not the wealthiest – those people stay up in North Scottsdale and don't travel south of the 101 freeway. But wealthy nonetheless (or perhaps only wanting to appear wealthy).

While gazing across the parking lot the shop shared with a grocery store, no fewer than 10 Cadillac Escalades drove by.

I had a hard time concentrating because I kept thinking about what I could do with that kind of money. Great vacations, giving more to the arts, social services and education, etc. instead of driving around in an ungodly expensive and inefficient vehicle such as that.

Sure, it's their priority to be driving around in such monstrosities. It just seems such pathetically wasteful – and environmentally irresponsible – use of money to me.

GUESS WHO CALLED ME?

February 24, 2009

Ha ha! Oh, that's right, a few of you are still guessing. You're getting really close, though.

Basketball guy called and left me a nice message about how nice it was to meet me, how much fun he had and that while he's not scheduled to come back to Phoenix any time soon (but that will depend on how the Suns do), he wants to get to know me a little better.

*uncontrollable giggling*

Slow News Day

February 24, 2009

Not much to report here. Still so busy with work and everything else. Fun and frustrations. Yay.

No matter how tired I am, I wake up at 2:00 a.m. and lie there thinking the most random thoughts until 4:00 a.m. or so. At least Elvis appreciates my insomnia. It's the most attention he gets these days. Poor sweet kitty.

I still dragged myself out of bed and ran two miles this morning. If I don't do that, I feel even worse. I've stopped nagging myself into doing more miles because that would mean getting up even earlier, which isn't going to happen.

I need to get back at it, but I'll leave with you with two of my favorite things wrapped into one. Just like chocolate and peanut butter, ska punk and Stevie Wonder make me really happy.

Argh. But Vox makes me mad. It seems to think my music file is a DVD. I'll try one more time and if that doesn't work, then you'll have to trust me that I was going to post rocking good happy song.

Okay, now I think I have it…

Cutting Self Some Slack

February 23, 2009

I dropped off my two houseguests from the horse show at the airport this morning. It was fun having them around even though my schedule kept me from spending much time with them.

This week is hell on my time. Same or even more hellish than the last two weeks.

Tonight: HOA meeting (getting off the board this year. Huzzah!)
Tomorrow: Big work meeting 4-6, dress rehearsal 7-9
Wed: Concert
Thursday: Pick up British consultant guy from airport
Friday: All day seminar I'm in charge of (need to wrap it up this morning).
Friday night: Dinner with Brit, boss and others
Saturday: Show Brit around town
Sunday: Show Brit around town, drop off at airport
Monday: Is that a clear night I see in my calendar? What a lovely sight that is.

That said, there is no resolution challenge/Rear in Gear post this week. If I do anything besides eat, sleep and work, it would be a major accomplishment. The laundry will just have to pile up for a little while longer. I'm not going to add more stress to myself by trying to keep everything neat and tidy at home.

I'll trust you all to keep things under control on Vox while I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off over here.

TGITEOTDF/Amy’s All-Star Weekend

February 21, 2009

Thank god it's the end of the day Friday.

This week has been a major crush of work, meetings and whatnot. I was behind when the week started and I'm already behind for next week. Plus I have more meetings that will keep me out of the office when I need to actually create and produce copy. It's kind of hard to write when I only have small snippets of time.

I had all sorts of fun things to talk about, too. I haven't made it up to the Arabian show yet, but will go tomorrow. My BFF's filly didn't do as well as she had hoped, so that's a big bummer.

The NBA All-Star game was in town last weekend and a famous (well, to other people who are shocked I had to ask for whom he played) former pro basketball player was wooing and pursuing yours truly. That was pretty damn funny, and a pretty damn fun time.

I'm so not a basketball groupie. He was working hard at being smooth and I wasn't having any of it, which he apparently appreciated.

We met at the Ritz on Saturday where he and a lot of All-Star media were staying and where I had a bridal shower. He was totally checking me out when I pulled up behind his car at the valet stand. In the elevator he asked if the gift I had was for him.

"Why yes, I hope it fits." He laughed ("Probably not"- he's 7 ft tall) and then I hopped out of the elevator. When I left the party, there he was as I was getting out of the elevator into the lobby. We had another quick little exchange as we passed each other and a few moments later, there he was at the valet stand to strike up a conversation.

I will say, after we met and he convinced me to go out with him later, I was astonished at all the people – including hardcore groupies – who threw themselves at him with no hesitation. I wanted to say "Have you no shame??" The audacity of it all was pretty shocking to me. I admit I was getting irritated, but I suppose that comes with the territory when you are with a 7-footer in a suit during a big NBA weekend.

Long story really short (yeah, I'm skipping a lot of the good parts), he was a nice guy, we had a blast, I didn't cut him much slack and he gave me a bit of a hard time as well. He called on Monday to say he'll call next time he's headed this way. I don't believe him (I don't believe 90% of what guys say when they're being flirty, as a rule) but it was nice to hear.

All right. It's almost 7:00 p.m. on Friday and I'm still at work. I'm going home and I'm cracking open some wine. If the neighbor's grapefruits are still hanging over the sidewalk, I'm having grapefruit and tequila instead (I ran out of vodka during the Super Bowl party).

Quick Poll

February 17, 2009

I'm beginning to realize that I need to finally break down and get one of them fancy 'smart phones' to keep my sanity at work when I'm not in the office.

So, for those of you who rely on a smart phone to keep up with the office/job, why do you prefer the:

1. Blackberry
2. Blackberry Pearl
3. iPhone

Thanks bunches. Now if you could tell me how to either clone myself or overcome the constraints of the space-time continuum, that would also be greatly helpful.

Frazzled

February 13, 2009

Taking a quick break from writing short and snappy corporate brochure copy to free up my brain cells for a bit.

Not that I don't think real hard when I'm over here for all y'all. Oh ya, you betcha.

Random note – Whenever I mention something about Valentine's Day, I keep saying "Halloween" instead.

I'm sure that means something that probably isn't too hard to throw through the Freudian Meter and get an accurate reading.

Okay. That's enough of that. Time to go back to leveraging my creative assets and capitalizing on my synapsis-ian synergies.

😛
