What I did at work today

October 11, 2013

Me at work

I was the stand-in as we set up to do an executive video shoot. This is a still taken from the video during the white-balancing. My boss sent it to me with the subject line “Amy at Work.”

Yeah, these people are a lot of fun. It could turn into a real honest-to-goodness 40-hour-a-week job at some point. The executive we taped was the HR person, who was the one who told my boss to “stop complaining already and get yourself a contractor!” This was the first I heard that story and the first time we met, so that was really cool. I like her a lot.

You can’t really see much behind you, but that’s an actual shot out of the building, not a green screen. It’s Papago Park, a beautiful part of town where the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden are. That white pyramid above my ring finger is Governor Hunt’s tomb, where he and his wife are buried.

MomH’s Artist Friend

October 7, 2013

As I mentioned in the last post, MomH met a performance artist during his residence at the nearby college. She was making doll clothes for his dramatic re-enactments of relationship stories using tiny dolls. They are fabulously funny and twisted.

He then contacted her to make some capes for his Human Cannonball project. If you had just been shot out of a cannonball, how would that change how you see your world? Or at least that’s what I think the intent was from MomH’s telling. He is doing this again in New York City (Dora? You should check it out!) and received a grant to do this in Australia.

For the project, he needed a bunch of capes for all the participants to wear. He sent MomH two boxes of fabric–rejects and scraps from some of the designer studios in NYC. The material is available for artists and clothing design studio. The stuff was gorgeous. Nothing you would find at JoAnn Fabrics, that’s for sure. If she didn’t put it all on the floor and rolled around in it, she should have.

We hope he really does well and keeps asking MomH to help.

Crafty MomH

October 5, 2013

All our lives, MomH had us three kids doing arts and craft projects. She’s so incredibly creative and talented.

Now that she’s retired, her production levels have reached even greater heights. As you have seen from some of Sailor Babo’s fashion shows, MomH is big into American Girl doll clothes.

If there’s an American Girl doll in your life who needs new fabulous clothes, she won’t find better togs than my mom’s.

Edit: oh yeah, she even makes the coat hangers.

Postcard from Cranky!

October 4, 2013

I need to find a good spot to put it on the fridge where it can hang with all the other Vox-peep postcards!

It also reminds me that I have a stack of postcards I need to send out to people.

Thanks, Cranky! Glad you had a great trip and glad to have you back!
