Day 3863: New words

After encountering some sexism on Twitter yesterday, I made up two new words and posted them.

Image

Several people appreciated those new words but one person got enranged (a new word that combines “enraged” and “deranged”) and accused me of bigotry.

I don’t have time to use many new words or old words in my blog post this morning because I’m taking an early ferry to get to the hospital on time. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I hope these new images suffice.

Day 3862: Weird

When I asked this weird question on a weird social media site last night, somebody asked me to define “weird.”

Image

Weird is in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it? When I was a weird child with a weird heart condition, I thought weird was a bad thing. Now I think weird is wonderful.

Here’s a definition of “weird” from Merriam-Webster:

Image

.

The word “weird” is weird because the usual rule is “I after E except after C.” I don’t see any “C” in weird.

Do you see anything weird in my images for today?

Day 3861: What connects us

In these divisive times, it’s helpful to focus on what connects us, which I get to witness six times every week in my therapy groups.

Do you see what connects us in my images for today?

Day 3860: Kenspeckle

Kenspeckle is a word that appeared in yesterday’s blog. I assume that “Kenspeckle” is NOT kenspeckle to most people, so here’s the definition again:

Image

In my coaching session on Wednesday, Jeff Leisawitz and I spoke about my ambivalence about being kenspeckle, which originates from my experience as a child expressing my talents and then ending up in the hospital for much of the time. Even though that’s magical thinking (a little girl’s musical and creative talents do not cause her to undergo painful surgeries and other traumatic experiences; her congenital heart condition does that), I’m still afraid of being kenspeckle.

My most recent unpleasant experience of being kenspeckle was a year ago when I shared my song “Everybody’s Somebody’s Asshole” with enthusiastic strangers on a trip in Georgia, and ended up the next day in a hospital with a T.I.A.

My fears of being kenspeckle are also related to growing up in an Orthodox Jewish family, where people were afraid of attracting the “evil eye” if they were too conspicuous and easily recognizable.

I am working on letting go of my fear of being kenspeckle. In the meantime, is there anything kenspeckle in my images for today?

Day 3859: Invitations

Yesterday, in my first “show biz” coaching session with the Not F-ing Around Jeff Leisawitz, Jeff gave me some homework, which he prefers to call “invitations.”

One of Jeff’s invitations was for me to write (or otherwise express myself) about my very hilarious and performing-loving late father Aaron (known as Arkie), my wonderful ex-stand-up comedian son Aaron (known as Aaron), and me (known as however people know me). Jeff’s invitation included the suggestion that this writing might be in the form of a dialogue.

Taking Jeff’s invitation, I started writing something early this morning, including this:

I really appreciate Jeff’s invitations and now here’s an invitation from me: please peruse my other images for today.

Unless I’m mistaken, I think we already had a National All or Nothing Day. All-or-nothing thinking is a very common cognitive distortion — mistakes we all make.

It would be a mistake for me not to recommend the wonderful TV show Jury Duty, which includes many mistakes.

Here’s what I find when I look for mistakes on YouTube.

Here are more mistakes on YouTube.

Make no mistake, I’m grateful to all who help me deal with mistakes, including YOU!

Day 3857: The value of a moment

In mindfulness exercises, I invite members of my Coping and Healing groups to appreciate the value of a moment.

I value the moment when I saw this yesterday in the hospital gift shop:

Image

.

I especially value that today because Twitter — where I’ve spent many wonderful moments connecting with thousands of terrific people — is becoming a memory.

Can you see the value of a moment in my other images for today?

Day 3856: Details, Details

Last night on Twitter*, I asked a question about details.

By the way, I loved all the details in the Barbie movie and here’s what I find when I search for “details, details Barbie”:

* Here’s another detail: while I was writing this, I got a message that Elon Musk had changed the name of Twitter to “X.” Here’s what I posted about that detail:

Day 3855: Quiddity

Now that I’m learning the meaning of the word “quiddity” …

Day 3854: Snubs

For whatever reason, I’ve been thinking a lot about snubs lately, especially the reported snubs of a very successful actor.

Image

.

An article I read last week lamenting the surprising snubs by the Emmy awards of Harrison Ford for his role as an elderly therapist in Shrinking led me to watch that series, and now I can’t stop thinking about the snubs. That’s how good he was in it. Also, I’m surprised about the snubs he’s getting from the world as people are staying away in droves from the latest and last Indiana Jones movie, which I really enjoyed.

I wonder whether these snubs are related to the fact that Harrison Ford is 80 years old, because older people experience so many snubs.

I’ve been so concerned about Harrison Ford’s feelings about these snubs that I have to keep reminding myself that he is most likely not thinking about them at all.

In the meantime, I dreamed last night that I got snubs from many people when I performed my original songs for them. Somebody I know said, “These songs are NOT good” as she walked out in disgust. I tried to get the rest of the audience to stay, but the responses were all snubs.

The reality is that we learn to survive snubs, including internalized biases like ageism, sexism, racism, Anti-Semitism, and homophobia. And the more we put ourselves out there, the more snubs we’ll encounter.

And I’m pretty sure that Harrison Ford is okay.

Do you see snubs in any of my images for today?
