I Hate Comcast
Posted in Uncategorized with tags comcast is craptastic, i hope they go bancrupt, i would have rather talked to someone in india on May 21, 2009 by Budd BlackMy internet went out so I called there very helpful robot at 1-800-Comcast. The robot narrowed down that I was having internet problems and had me speak my problem into the phone. It even gave examples such as, "I cannot connect to the internet." This example was my problem, so I said, "I cannot connec to the internet."
5 minutes on hold listening to all the great services that comcast provides and assurances that someone would be with me in a moment.
Ooooh, it is ringing. "We are sorry, all operators are busy now. For further assistance, visit our website." *click* *dialtone*
I kind of lost my temper at this point. I am lucky my phone still works and that the neighbors didn't call the cops. I so wish that comcast wasn't my only choice for high speed internet.
Beauty Schools
Posted in Uncategorized with tags bad haircuts, beauty school, haircuts, sport clips, style america on May 18, 2009 by Budd BlackI am starting to lose faith in the beauty school system. In the past years, the price of a haircut has gone up double, but the quality of a haircut has gone down. I think beauty schools are really just party schools with raging keggers at the sorority parties every night. The school itself doesn't care because it is only worried about its football program. Heck if half the students weren't scholorship athletes, the teacher could probably enforce some standards. All beauty school degrees shouldn't be considered the same. I don't want someone that majored in nail decoration cutting my hair. It isn't my fault that there isn't much demand for painting flowers on fingernails. Sure she took some basic studies courses in haircut theory but that doesn't qualify her to cut my hair.
Why do they always ask me if I am sure that I want my haircut the way I asked for it. Hello, I have been getting my haircut for over 3 decades. Half of that time I have been getting it my way. I know how I want my hair cut. I don't,however, know how to do your job, so quit asking me what guard is normally used. Speaking of guards, you cut the top of someones head with scissors in the civilized world.
Don't get your haircut at:
Style America in La Vergne, very bad haircut but I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.
SportClips in Antioch (yeah, I should know better than to even be in Antioch), took twenty nice fade but my hair is as uneven as my grass.
QotD: Birth Order
Posted in Uncategorized with tags birth order, qotd on May 12, 2009 by Budd BlackWhat is the birth order in your family? Do you think it has an affect on your personality?
Submitted by aynge.
In my family the oldest people were born first. I think it would have really screwed me up if I would have been born before my parents or grandparents.

Into Thin Air
Posted in Uncategorized with tags book review, everest, into thin air, jon krakauer, mt. everest on May 8, 2009 by Budd Black
This book that recounts the disaster of the May, 10 1996 Everest disaster is excellent. Jon Krakauer was a member of a commercial expedition going to the top of the mountain. The group consisted of three guides and several recreational mountain climbers. Another group, very similar in makeup, was ascending at the same time. The two large groups made a series of small errors and lapses in judgement that ended in the death of five people, including three of the guides.
This was an amazing book that was written very well. Krakauer paints a picture of people that become single minded on their goal. I relate to this as when I was training for my Marathon I hurt my knee on the final twenty miler before the race. I ran the race anyway and even though my knee felt like someone was ramming an Ice pick into the side of it from about 10 miles on to the finish, I kept going. I didn't know what I was doing to my knee, I just knew that I had prepared long and hard for that day. I had also spent quite a bit of money to pay for the training, the race, and getting there. Nothing was going to stop me from getting to the finish line. So, I vaguely understand what these people were feeling as they kept climbing long after they should have stopped.
This book has some language and presents some very disturbing death scenes, so it may not be for everyone. It is a very good book and most will not be able to put it down. The very last line of the book is very haunting and really closes the book well. An amazing read.
The Uninvited
Posted in Uncategorized with tags horror, movie review, tale of two sisters, uninvited on May 5, 2009 by Budd Black
Let me preface this review by saying that I am a huge fan of the Korean movie that inspired this, A Tale of Two Sisters. So I knew the twist and could see it coming from a mile away. They dropped a second twist that the Korean version had. Emily Browning did a pretty good job, as did the other women, but the dad character wasn't very good in my opinion I watched the extra features to see if they mention the Korean movie. They do and they admit to westernizing the story. They also say that the Korean movie was very complex and they had to make it simpler. If you are going to watch both movies I would watch the American version first. If you only watch one make it the Korean Tale of Two Sisters.

Wolverine
Posted in Uncategorized with tags comics, movie review, wolverine, x-men origins on May 2, 2009 by Budd Black
This movie was a total heroes rip off. You had a sylar character that has every power and can't be killed. Wolverine is basically just a claire with claws. Silverfox is a mrs. patrelli, stryker is an evil HRG. Attention writers of Wolverine. Heroes sucks!
Somehow the weapon x program was run by the U.S. Military all along and it was never revealed in the comic. Also, Emma Frost and Silver Fox are sisters. Who would have guessed. Gambit can make cards levitate as well as charge them. Deadpool is a freak of nature science experiment gone wrong that shouldn't be able to bend his arms.
Somehow they managed to screw up an essential part of the movie that they got almost right almost ten years ago; the claws. The special effects for the claws are horrid in this movie.
I just can't get behind this movie as a comic fan.
