Anna In The Orchard, An Amish Watercolor Completed

First let me say thanks to all those who gave me some awesome input for ideas for finishing this painting. It was extremely helpful.  It’s also nice to know that you are interested in my work. Thanks so much!

Well, I finally finished…I think. I just might add a couple of peaches in the branches above Anna at some point…not sure. But, I did use some muted trees for the background and the simple leaves for the foreground so it framed Anna somewhat.

The butterfly here needed to look more realistic than cartoonish or simplistic, like I’m so used to drawing, because it would have been out of place otherwise with such a realistic, little girl.  I really didn’t want to put anything else, but sky around her pretty face. The space here works well too, in case I decide to place a small quote or saying for a cute note card at some point.

Unfortunately, I had gone too far with this painting when I saw the idea for the wagon. I could have done that I think,  but maybe for the next one.  I’m sure there will be more orchard paintings….hmmm…apple orchard….pumpkins….uh-oh…more ideas!  Thanks to all and hope you like the completed picture!

Also, prints are sold on my Etsy at  www.cherylmcnultyart.etsy.com!

Amish Girl In The Garden Completed

Here is the finished piece of Amish Girl In The Garden.  I hope you like it.

I don’t know if it was because I received many reviews on this piece in it’s beginning stages, that I was afraid I would disappoint in it’s finishing stages.  I just wanted to keep touching it here and there, until I finally said to myself that I just had to get it out there and leave it alone and go on to the next one!

But anyway…I hope you like it.  I blurred the edges on this one a little bit to give it more of a soft appearance.

On to the next oneImage… whew! 🙂

Amish Girl In The Garden, A Pastel In The Works

Hello everyone.  The weather here is yucky and so I am blogging and then going upstairs and painting with my pastels!  Because it makes me happy!  Here is a picture in the works right now.  This started to be an angel, but decided to try an amish girl instead.  I love the amish culture and the peacefulness and quiet of the country there.  The amish girls in their colorful dresses just add to the beautiful landscape.

I can’t wait to see how this looks finished.  She will be framed in flowers as if she is in a garden, and a butterfly will be flying toward her.  I will update with the finished picture!  Hope it is a great pic!  We’ll see!

A New Pastel Drawing – “Angel In The Garden”

I finally finished my latest drawing.  I wanted to do more angels and to do this one in pastel was a treat.  I really enjoyed creating this piece.  The blending of colors is just amazing, and I love the  soft, finished look.

I hope you like this one.  There will be more coming. Enjoy.

Butterfly In My Garden

Here is a picture I took in my garden of a butterfly landing on a lavender bloom.  It took me so many shots just to get the right one as it kept going from bloom to bloom.  Doesn’t it know to just stay still when I want to get it’s picture!  It turned out rather well, and so I am selling them on note cards on my Etsy Store.  They are also scented which makes the card even more interesting.  Hope you like the pic and check out the listing on my Etsy site at:  www.etsy.com/shop/CherylMcNulty

I also took a very cool “bee” shot.  This is so much fun!  Enjoy! 🙂

Butterflies Flutter By

Butterflies.  Who doesn’t love butterflies.  They are a wonder.

When I sit and think how a caterpillar can make a cocoon and in so many days later, emerge into a whole different species, I know that there is a lesson here about life.  I can’t even fathom how such a thing can happen, but I don’t want it  really explained to me either.  I believe there is truly something out there bigger than myself, and it’s more complicated than I could even imagine.  And it makes me feel good, not scared.

Also, when I was growing up, I saw many Disney movies, and I truly believed if you were a beautiful person (such as the characters Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White) then blue birds and butterflies would  flit around you, even land upon your hand-and not fly away as soon as they saw you.  Oh, well.  Guess I wasn’t one of those “beautiful” people!

Anyway, this illustration is for the  “remarkable” butterfly.  🙂
