Surrender To Love

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is no greater occupation for the Christian than to know the love of God. Paul prayed that we would be given the power to understand it fully. He prayed that we would experience God’s love, even though it is beyond our comprehension. Why? Because that is the only way we will ever be complete in Him. It is in truly knowing God’s love that we are endowed with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. In his book, “Surrender To Love,” the author David Benner writes, “The Christian spiritual journey consists of more than surrender to love. But it contains nothing more important. Surrender to God’s love involves confession, repentance, obedience, and service. But as I have noted, for surrender to be transformational, it must be surrender to love. And for it to lead to union with God, it must be surrender to perfect love. Christian spirituality begins with love and ends with love.” Today God will provide all the power you will ever need to understand His love, but you must surrender. Come, spend time with Him and begin to know how wide, long, high, and deep His love truly is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I long to know You and all the fullness of Your love for me. I surrender to it. I need it. I come humbly before You and ask You to show me the mystery of Your love for me.
AMEN

Confess

TODAY’S VERSE
If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer.
Psalm 66:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our heart is key to our relationship with God. Our emotions, motives, beliefs, assumptions, self-image, and so much more all interface in our hearts. It is from the heart, our emotional center, where we feel the need to repent and confess our sins to God, whom we have offended. God is not interested in our thinking about sin with all its deception, lies, rationalizations, and half-hearted apologies. He would rather have our confession, repentance, and humility that come from the heart. When we go to Him in this way, there is open communication. Love, joy, and peace can be shared because our hearts are in tune with His. Today, protect your heart. Keep your conscience clear. Be honest with God in all you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for all the times I have held sin in my heart. I come to you repentant. Help me keep my conscience clean. Help me to be honest with you and confess all my wrong beliefs, attitudes, and behavior. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Heavenly Father

TODAY’S VERSE
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Romans 8:15-16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we became Christians, we were born again. We received the Holy Spirit, becoming children of God with the right to call God our Father. I don’t know which is more exciting, the fact that I am a child of God or that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me. The beautiful fact is that both are true. Do you believe this? Do you truly understand that God is your father? Do you fully comprehend that you are a child of God who is loved and cherished? If it hasn’t already, this truth can change your life. Why not let it? Today, breathe in the fact that you are a beloved child of God. Not just the Holy Almighty God, but your Heavenly Father. Know Him, love Him, talk to Him. The Spirit will testify to you that indeed you are His child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh my loving Father, thank You for making me Your child. Help me to know You, love You, and live for You. I need You to guide my life.
AMEN

Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
But Moses said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.”
Exodus 4:11-13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God wanted to rescue His people from slavery, so He chose Moses to go to Pharaoh to demand that the people be released. Moses’ reaction was one of shock and trepidation. Moses said to God, ‘“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ And God said, ‘I will be with you.’” That should have finished it. God is enough for any crisis. But I love the next part. God, in His grace, allows Moses to show his reservations. Moses goes down a long list of reasons why he could not do what God asked him to do. The Lord is patient with each excuse, and in today’s verse, we see God’s tender mercy as He explains to Moses how He will help him speak and teach him what to say. But Moses still asks God to let someone else go and talk to Pharaoh. So God told Moses that He would send Aaron with him to speak for him. What mercy. God loved Moses, and Moses felt heard. With God’s help, Moses was able to do the job God gave him. Today, what are you afraid of? What has God asked you to do that you keep putting off? Tell God about it. Let Him know your concerns. He will help you. He will teach you. He will be your strength. With God, you can do it!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know me intimately. You know my fears and reservations. Empower me to do Your will.
AMEN

Aware Of His Presence

Aware Of His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!
Psalms 116:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a gift we have been given. God has asked us to walk in His presence. But it is our choice to make. We don’t have to be alone and alienated from God. We can choose to live with the awareness of His presence and build a real and vital relationship with Him. Or we can choose to be conscious of Him only while we are at church or in one of life’s crises. Of course, we don’t have to walk with God at all. We can spend all our time walking through this world, barely paying attention to His love for us. But why? God has an incredible love for you. He desires for you to fellowship with Him. He is ready to share with you His very presence. So why not commit yourself to Him? Ask Him to fill your heart and open your eyes to all that He is. He will. And then you can say with the Psalmist, “I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose to follow You. I want to be conscious of Your presence. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live in the awareness of Your love for me.
AMEN

God’s Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more than he hurt me. Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough. Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement. So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him.”
II Corinthians 2:5-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God’s grace. It’s what I love about Christianity. When I have so much to be forgiven, God in His mercy forgives me. When I am so far from what God expects, He still guides me, corrects me, and restores my soul. Grace is the free gift of God. So why is it, when I receive so much grace from God, I find it hard to give to others? The church in Corinth expelled a person from their fellowship because of a grievous sin. But instead of banishing him forever, Paul encourages the church to extend him grace by forgiving and comforting him. But the truth is I find it hard to forgive those that have offended me. It is difficult to give grace to someone I think doesn’t deserve it. But isn’t that what grace is all about? You see, my grace isn’t much, but God’s grace is. Sometimes it comes down to the question, “Whose grace am I going to give, mine or Christ’s?” Today, let’s give the same grace to others that God has given us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, Your sweet grace, totally undeserved, has been given freely to me. Help me offer that same grace to others. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love Others

TODAY’S VERSE
The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Romans 13:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can make following God complicated. We make up rules, regulations, and standards of behavior so we can measure our progress toward Spirituality. Yes, God gave us the Ten Commandments to guide the conduct of mankind, but it did not take man long to add hundreds of rules and regulations to them. Today, we have our own. Look a certain way. Listen to certain kinds of music. Exhibit certain acceptable behavior. While there is right and wrong, God does expect us to live holy and righteous with a bunch of man-made rules. There is a better way, one that covers all the bases. It is love. Jesus came to share the message with the whole world. When asked, “What is the greatest commandment in the law?” Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” Paul explains in Romans that the commandments are written to guide our behavior, and it can be summed up very simply. “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Do you want to know what God wants you to do today? He wants you to love others. Do you know what God’s will is for your life? Love those he brings you in contact with. Today, if tempted with choices between good and bad or right and wrong, choose love. Love never fails.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You are love! Give me the courage, strength, patience, and discipline to love the way You do.
AMEN

Focus

TODAY’S VERSE
Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How serious are you about Jesus Christ? How committed are you to living the kind of life He asks you to? It is easy to “talk” about following Jesus, but living for Him is another story. He hasn’t asked us to join a club. We were never asked just to become a “member.” Following Jesus is not a hobby or spectator sport. Instead, Christ asks us to be His disciples. We are called to be disciples with a mission to spread His word and love to everyone we can. The author of Hebrews illustrates this with the metaphor of an athlete. He writes that we must strip ourselves of those things that prevent us from running our race. And when we run, we must run with endurance. But what really makes the difference, what motivates us to keep our course, is focus. We focus on the love of Jesus. He was the one who started us on this journey, and He will see us through. In his book, “365 Days of Power” Rick Renner shares a confession of dedication. Today, make this your confession. “I declare by faith that I am more deeply in love with Jesus Christ today than at any previous moment in my life. My affection for Him is so deep that I will never turn back to the life from which I’ve been delivered. I have no relational obligations greater than the sense of obligation that I feel for Jesus Christ. He saved me, redeemed me, delivered me, and changed me—and I vow to serve Him for the rest of my life! I declare this by faith in Jesus’ name!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You have heard my confession. I thank You for the call You have on my life. Help me today to focus on You and the mission of love You have me on. Loosen everything from me that prohibits me from living the way You want me to. Help me run the race You have put me in with endurance, keeping my eyes on You.
AMEN

Power For Your Weakness

TODAY’S VERSE
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
II Corinthians 12:8-10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all have different skills and abilities. Some are natural, some are learned, but most are honed through experiences. Good experiences and bad help us mature and add to our personal development. From our experiences, we can reach out and help others. Paul was going through dire circumstances, and God told him He would provide all the grace he would need. Paul could then testify to others how God’s grace was all he needed. In “The Angel That Troubled the Waters,” Thornton Wilder writes about a Physician who wanted to be healed, but God did not heal him. Instead, an Angel came and said this to the Doctor, “Without your wounds where would your power be? It is your melancholy that makes your low voice tremble into the hearts of men and women. The very angels themselves cannot persuade the wretched and blundering children on earth as can one human being broken on the wheels of living. In Love’s service, only wounded soldiers can serve.” Christ wants to allow His power to be used through your weaknesses. Bring your weakness and troubles to Him today and begin helping others in the way Christ helps you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my struggles, weaknesses, and human frailty. I come to You and ask for Your grace to give me all I need to be a wounded healer. Help me relate how Your grace has been sufficient for me. May your power be manifested in my weaknesses today.
AMEN

Increased Faith And Love

TODAY’S VERSE
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.
II Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul is writing about two marks of a healthy Christian: faith and love. But it is not just faith and love; it is a faith that is growing more and more and a love that is increasing. But what is a growing faith and love? A growing faith is one that increases one’s awareness and trust in God. It believes God for great and mighty things. It is a faith that trusts even when circumstances scare us to the core. It is a faith that knows God and spends time understanding His love and power. It is a faith exercised in prayer and patience, trusting God with every circumstance. And growing love, what of that? It is a love that is steeped in action. A love that reaches out to those in need. A love that drops superficiality and replaces it with genuine concern. A growing love is sacrificial and selfless. It is a love that forgives and then forgives again. It is a love that prefers others above itself. Today, ask God to help you increase your faith and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me exercise more faith. Help me increase my love. Help my faith and love grow as I serve You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
