The Secret Door

Bethany’s body trembled with excitement. She was getting closer to her destination, one that she had been highly anticipating.

Questions citcled around in her head. What would be behind the door? What surprise was waiting for her? Would it be as amazing as she hoped for? Her wild imagination has been all over the place over the past years.

Perhaps the door would open to a deep blue sea, and she would row away to a mysterious island as a group of dolphins followed her.

Or maybe it would lead to a towering mountain to climb. At the top, she would find an old wise man to ask her many questions to.

Maybe a rose strewn pathway through a beautiful garden with sweet, heavenly fragrances.

Whatever it was, Bethany Ann was about to find out. She was almost there. Only a few more steps. Her body tingled with goosebumps as she approached with bated breath.

There it was. The enchanted door. The day had come, and finally, the door would be unlocked. Unlocked only for today.

Bethany stepped up to the door. Feeling giddy with anticipation, she put her hand on the doorknob. It wouldn’t turn! It was locked! Nooooo! It had to be unlocked. It was February 29th.

Looking down, she noticed a note on the ground. Picking it up, she read it. Dismay and disappointment overwhelmed her! This had to be a joke.

The note proclaimed in big bold letters, “Gone fishing …Come back in four years!”

How it All Began …

Image

Oh, how beautiful she felt and why shouldn’t she? After all, she was the fairest of them all. Ellabel didn’t need an enchanted mirror to tell her what she already knew to be the truth.

In a few hours, the stage would be set for the greatest wedding. Ellabel was ready for the action to begin. Rubbing her hands together, she gloated. Adrenaline was pumping through her veins. Ellabel was her name, and deception was her game.

With a wicked laugh, she walked out of the glorious field of red.

Alexander put on his tux. He smiled in his full-length mirror. The day was finally here. It didn’t come a moment too soon. He didn’t know how long he could continue this charade, Ellabel was driving him crazy!

He may become incredibly wealthy with this marriage to Lady Ellabel, but over the past month, he had been seriously debating whether it was worth it!

There had to be a better way to become rich than tricking young rich women into marrying him so that he could hop a train and disappear with their money.

The last woman before Ellabel he found himself falling for, and in the end, he couldn’t steal her money. He hopped a train nursing his lonely heart. Maybe he should settle down with someone he truly loved, but no, he wasn’t giving into the crazy passion of his heart. Alexander was his own man. He didn’t need a woman!

He tied his tie, smiling again, feeling proud of himself. He had hooked Ellabel with his charm and had her eating out of his hand. She was so in love with him and who could blame her. After all, he was the most handsome guy in all the land.

He ran the comb through his hair. It was even more luxurious than before. That quick trip to BitterSweet Creek had paid off. Mason, the diner manager in town, had told him his secret to his own luxurious hair. Sold him two bottles of the special hair gel.

Ellabel had loved it. He almost fell guilty about her missing out on being able to have more days of running her fingers through his luxurious hair.

But Alexander wouldn’t give into guilt. Deception was his game, and Alexander was his name.

The train rolled down the tracks, and Alexander was in shock. Ellabel had tricked him! She ran off with his money!! That was it! No more was he chasing after wealthy women. No woman was going to deceive him again! He would find a better way to become rich, or Jesse Alexander James wasn’t his name!

Now you know how it all began. The untold story of Jesse James

The Golden Glow

This is the next part.to Journey in the Snow

Wow! Stacy didn’t know what she had expected to find when following her little deer friend who she had named Kojika, but this hadn’t been one of her guesses.

Kojika had stopped in front of a cave. There was a boulder in front of it. It had a glowing long and pointy object stuck into it. It wasn’t the typical thing one saw every day.

Why did Kojika bring her here? What was Stacy supposed to do? Try to take the object out of the rock? Where was one of King Arthur’s knights when you needed them?

It was glowing gold and had some pink tones in it as well. What was it, and how was she supposed to pull it out of the rock? Especially now with shooting pain in her wrist. Not that she was strong enough even if her wrist wasn’t hurting.

She had stumbled in the snow earlier and bent her wrist to catch herself. At least she hadn’t twisted her ankle in the fall.

The deer stood there patiently watching Stacy. She gazed back at the deer.

“Are you sure you can’t talk? Why did you bring me out here to this boulder?”

Kojika stared back unflinching.

The longer Stacy stood still, the more that the cold started sinking into her bones. She wanted to be home under her thick tangerine orange blanket.

Reaching toward the glowing object in the rock, she touched it. Nothing happened. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting. Plumes of smoke to fill the air, perhaps?

Giving a small tug, she pulled on it with one hand. To her great shock, it came out of the rock! There was no doubt now that whatever this object was, it was magical. How else could Stacy have pulled it so easily out of the rock?

Her hand started trembling uncontrollably. What was happening? Stacy started to worry as the trembling increased spreading throughout her body. What magical powers had she unleashed?

She heard the echoes of her heart vibrating in her ear. Then, suddenly rainbow snowflakes filled the air. Coming down so fast and thick, Stacy couldn’t see anything else.

The curtain of snowflakes parted, and Stacy was in awe. There was a unicorn standing in front of her with a glowing golden horn standing in front of her.

Bowing its head, it spoke. “Thank you, my friend, for freeing my horn. I am indebted to you.”

Before Stacy could recover enough to utter an intelligible word, the unicorn was gone.

She spun around. It wasn’t anywhere, and where had her little deer friend, Kojika gone? Stacy was all alone, but she didn’t need to worry about finding her way home. There were golden glowing prints in the snow that she followed. Soon, she was in her backyard, where it had all begun.

As Stacy got ready for bed, she was lost in thought. What had happened? Why was the unicorn’s horn stuck in the boulder in the first place? Who would ever believe her story?

Snuggling under her heavy blanket, she wondered. What did it mean by being indebted to her. Would she ever see the unicorn again? That was her last thought before giving in to sleep.

The next morning, Stacy was happy to wake up to the pain in her wrist being gone. She could move it fine, like nothing had happened to it the night before.

Pulling on her cozy robe, she walked out of her bedroom. Buffy was yipping, wanting to be fed.

Stacy couldn’t help but wonder if last night had all been a wild dream. There was no deer or unicorn standing in her backyard when she looked out.

After feeding Buffy an egg, a special treat for her, she sat down to drink her coffee and plan her day. The ringing of her phone pierced the solitude of the morning.

Stacy didn’t recognize the number, but she answered it.

“Hello, Is this Miss Stacy Uni?”

“Yes.” Stacy replied.

“Wonderful. This is Mrs Ames, and I am calling to say how impressed I was by your resume. We think you may be the perfect fit for us here at the Golden Glow Corporation. Could you come this afternoon for an interview?”

Stacy couldn’t stop smiling as she hung up the phone. She had an interview! But she was confused. Why couldn’t she remember ever sending a resume to the Golden Glow Corporation? Had she simply forgotten?

Walking over to her desk, she pulled out her file of jobs she had applied at. She couldn’t find “Golden Glow” on her list. Strange.

Oh well, her crazy brain had probably forgotten to write it down. She walked back to the kitchen and passed her picture window. Her mouth fell open. The unicorn was standing in her yard bowing its head. There was no doubt that it was the same one from the night before. A golden glow emanated from its horn.

Did you start your day off singing this morning? I think listening to a Gibbon each morning would be much better than a crowing rooster.

2.

I would say that is true here in America too. Emojis are fun to use but they are not a replacement for the power of real words!

Are you one of the 5%? I would say those people are real fortunate!

An appropriate term I think. They are a blessing in the world of fairytales.

What a favor he did for the squirrels. They must have smart squirrels at the White House, ones that know how to read.

Journey in the Snow

Buzzz! The washing machine was done. Stacy finished paying her electric bill online and sighed. Perhaps she would buy a lantern. Pretend that she lived in a little house on a prairie.

Rising from her chair, she walked to the washer to switch the clothes over to the dryer. A lantern in the evening wouldn’t be bad to save on electricity, but she wasn’t ready to give up her washer and dryer.

She would be okay. Money was tight this month, but she had been through tough times before. She would make it through this.

Buffy whined at her feet.

“Do you want to go outside, girl?”

Buffy wagged her tail and ran halfway towards the door. Then she stopped and turned around, making sure that Stacy was following her.

Scooping Buffy up in her arms, Stacy carried her outside. Placing her in the snow, the toy poodle shrunk as she sank down a little.

Giving Stacy a pitiful look, she quickly did her business so that she could escape the cold.

Once inside, Buffy made a dash for her comfy bed. Stacy gave her a treat, and soon, the cozy dog was asleep in front of the fireplace.

Later that morning, Stacy passed by her large picture window and stopped. She let out a tiny gasp, covering her mouth in surprise.

That had to be the most gorgeous deer that she had ever seen. It was so still and serene, as the snow fell upon it.

For a moment, time stopped as Stacy soaked in the joy of seeing a deer so close. There was a small field behind her house, but rabbits were mostly what she saw. The few times that a deer did pass by, it was moving fast. Never had one stopped before. This one was looking right at her.

Stacy was surprised that the deer hadn’t run yet. Another minute went by, and then the deer slightly tipped its head down and left. As if it was saying goodbye to her. The mysterious deer soon disappeared across the field, into the thicket of snow-covered trees.

Stacy went about her day with a little extra bounce in her step. Seeing that deer had brought some sunshine her way, as she continued to apply for jobs.

When evening came and the sun started to go down, Stacy’s mood started dropping as well. She had begun the day with hope that she would find the right job, but there were still no promising leads.

She made herself a grilled cheese and treated herself to a slice of creamy peanut hutter pie from the pie she had bought earlier. It had been the last one on the shelf, at the bakery. Obviously, it needed to be rescued by her.

Oooh it was yummy. Almost tasted as good as what her sweet grandmother used to make.

Pushing worrisome thoughts about the future out of her mind, she concentrated on more pleasant things as she ate.

Puppy dog snuggles and books to be read, brown paper packages left by the door, hot cups of coffee, and deer prints in the snow. These were a few of her favorite things.

Walking into the living room, she thought she would enjoy a good book. Give herself a break from scouring the computer looking for jobs.

Find an enchanting fairytale to lose herself in.

Her back porch light was on, and Stacy had to look twice as she raised her head from her book and looked out the window. It was the same deer again! It was in the same spot staring directly at her. Once again, it stayed, appearing to be in no hurry to leave.

Stacy put on her boots and grabbed her thick, winter coat. The deer may run away as soon as she opened the door, but what if it didn’t? What if she could get closer to it?

Opening the door slowly, she stepped outside. The deer was still looking towards the picture window but turned its head when Stacy walked across the snow.

She stopped walking. Would it flee now? Stacy waited as did the deer. Then, once again, it lowered its head at her and turned to run. But it turned back and looked at her. Taking small steps, Stacy walked up to it. She drew in her breath, and her heart was melting, for she was close enough to touch it.

Its luminous dark eyes were so endearing. Tipping its head again, the deer turned to run but looked back, hesitating. Could it be that it wanted Stacy to follow it? Where did it want to take her?

Maybe Stacy was being foolish, but it was as if she was under a spell on this magical night. The air was cold, but it felt refreshing as she breathed it in. Warmth spread through her body as she took in the beautiful sight.

The full moon shined down on the million snowflakes, or angel kisses, as her mom had called them when she was young, covering the ground like a blanket.

She had to follow the deer. It beckoned to her. Reaching out, she touched the deer’s nose that glistened with an angel’s kiss. The deer tipped its head ever so slightly and started forward. It didn’t run. It walked, making sure to look back every so often to see that Stacy was there.

She followed with her heart pulsating in anticipation. Feeling like her life was about to change.

Lady Blue

Image

They called her Lady Blue, Enchanted Woman of the North, and more. But no one knew her true name.

Everyone knew who you meant when you mentioned one of those names, but no one really knew who she was. They knew what she looked like. Men had memorized every detail of her face but those details said nothing about her heart.

There was an aura of mystery that surrounded her, which no one could solve. Though it wasn’t from lack of trying.

When she appeared in town, people  would always try to start a conversation with her. But she never said more than a few polite words. She would give a sweet smile and warmth reflected out of her captivating blue eyes when looking at you.

Kind was her heart, as she always offered her help to anyone who needed it. A woman carrying too many bags or to a little boy who needed someone to tie his shoes.

The animals in town seemed to be especially drawn to her. She had a way with them. Once, she stopped a runaway horse by simply holding up her hand.

While curiosity about her was strong, the townspeople respected her and didn’t press her for information. Life went on, with Lady Blue coming to town a couple of times a week.

One day, there was a new man who came to town. He was enraptured with Lady Blue and decided that she was the woman for him.

It created some excitement in the small one horse town as people watched the saga unfold. The guy was a good man. He didn’t mean any trouble, but his heart wouldn’t let him stop trying to win Lady Blue’s hand.

He showered her with gifts of beautiful blue orchids and candy.  The guy traveled out of town for the rare blue orchids, telling others she was worth the trip. Some men groaned, for now because of him, their woman were wanting blue orchids as well.

It didn’t take long until some men were giving him money to buy some blue orchids for them to charm their women with.

The women were happy that Channing, this handsome  stranger, had come to their town. When they saw the diamond necklace he presented to Lady Blue, their hearts sang as they fluttered their lashes at their men.

But they could smile, flatter with words, and flutter their lashes all they wanted. This time, it  wasn’t going to work. The men had to remind them that having food on the table was more important than a diamond necklace around their necks.

The women sighed, but they understood. They loved their hardworking husbands and their simple one horse town.

As Channing persisted in trying to gain Lady Blue’s hand, one began to feel sorry for him. It didn’t seem that he would ever win until day came that no one would forget.

The day had started out in the normal way. The men of the town were hard at work at the mill, and the women were at the market. It had occurred to some that they hadn’t seen Lady Blue that week, and concern began to grow for this lady that had captivated their town.

Channing started asking where she lived, but no one knew, other than the fact that it was out of town. She always headed in the direction of the woods. Mounting his horse, Channing headed into the woods to see if he could find Lady Blue.

“I need Doc! Doc!’

All were shocked to see Channing running his horse at full speed into town. It had only been an hour since he had left.

Doc came out of his office hearing Channing’s shouts.

“It is Lady Blue. She needs you! Something is awfully wrong. She is on the ground in front of her cabin and she won’t wake up.”

Wasting no time, Doc grabbed his medicine bag, and they rode in his carriage out of town to help Lady Blue.

A hush fell over the town as they waited to hear about a woman that though they didn’t know well, had managed to capture everyone’s heart.

People started murmuring with excitement and nudging each other. In the distance, a horse and carriage were getting closer. It was Doc!

Everyone started heading towards his carriage to hear the news.

They were pleased to see Doc with a wide smile on his face as he assured everyone that Lady Blue would be fine.

But where was she, and where was Channing?

“Welll….” The Dr had a twinkle in his eye. “I think its safe to say that Channing has won Lady Blue’s heart. After all ….” the Dr paused, as the women especially waited with bated breath. “It was his kiss that woke her up.”

The women gasped, placing their hands over their heart, as they swooned. Everyone was elated for the happy couple, but they longed to know more. What did a half eaten apple found beside Lady Blue have to do with anything?

The Dr smiled, promising everyone that they would learn more when the couple came back to town, but for now, Channing and Lady Snow wished to be alone.

The Missing Jury

Mr and Mrs Snowbird were snuggled together, but Mrs Snowbird was feeling rather disgruntled.

“If you would have listened to me, we wouldn’t be freezing right now. I told you it was too early to come back from Florida!” Mrs Snowbird chirped.

“Aww, c’mon, it’s not that bad. We now have an excuse to snuggle closer.”

Mrs Snowbird chirped her displeasure loudly. “I would much rather be snuggling up to you in the warm sunshine.”

Mr Snowbird didn’t utter a sound.  He had learned that it was better sometimes to not reply. Let his wife blow off steam, and all would be well.

Plus, he had trouble of his own.  Trouble that he didn’t want the little Mrs to know about. He had  hoped the trouble would fly away and cease to be a problem. But for now, he hadn’t had a choice about coming back from Florida. Mr Snowbird had been served.

He found out that he couldn’t hide anywhere, much to his dismay.  The pigeon had found him and gave him the official letter.

All the color he had got from the Florida sun had drained away when reading the letter. Fortunately, Mrs Snow had been catching rays on the beach when he had received his letter at the golf course.

He knew he had to open up and tell her about him having to go to court, but how?  The news would ruffle her feathers for sure.

Over a dinner of fried worms, he decided to break the news as gently as possible.

“Well, dear, I don’t know how to tell you this, but I need to make an appointment with your friend, Mrs Angelica Finch. I am in need of her services.”

A worm fell out of Mrs Snowbird’s open mouth. Her eyes fluttered several times as she tried to focus on her husband.

“What is going on? Why do you need help from Angelica?

Angelica and her brother Atticus were both  lawyers. Atticus was more well known than Angelica was. He had been practicing for longer and handled some high-profile cases down South.

Mr Snowbird looked with longing at the plate of gummy worms for dessert, but Mrs Snowbird was anxiously waiting for him to explain.

He cleared his throat and began.

“There was a strange bird that I met one day when playing badminton at the gym. Larry, who I had been playing with, decided to try a new game with someone else at the gym. I was thinking of leaving, but this other bird came over to me and said he would play a game of badminton with me if I wanted to, so we started to play.  He appeared to be  friendly at first.

Well, this bird was one real competitive player. He won two  games and wanted to play more. I should have stopped and said no, but I agreed to one more, and I won.

That was when he got angry. He obviously was a sore loser, and I wasn’t interested in playing with him anymore.  I started walking away, amidst his squawking.

The next thing I knew, he had followed me outside. He was still squawking, and one angry bird.

Image
Pinterest image

He stood in front of me, glaring. I didn’t have a good feeling about this guy, so instead of walking home, I flew away fast. I figured he would go home and calm down, but I was wrong.

It appears that he made up a wild tale about me egging his home and is suing me for damages. Wants 500 worms!

As Mr. Snowbird predicted Mrs Snowbird was all flustered. How dare anyone falsely accuse her husband. She immediately sent  out several tweets to her friend, Angelica.

The next morning, Miss Angelica Finch was at their nest, ready to help.

Image
Pinterest image

Angelica listened to Mr Snowbird explain his side, and when he was finished, she smiled.

“Don’t worry. This angry bird has no proof that you egged his nest. Would your friend Larry Bird testify about witnessing how angry this bird was after losing to you?”

“Yes, he would. He was on the other side of the gym, but he still heard him. He was squawking so loud.”

“That will be perfect. I will meet with you again two weeks from now, before court, but don’t worry a bit.” Angelica chirped with delight. She always liked to reassure her clients.

Mr and Mrs Snowbird were visibly more relaxed once she told them the good news. After she left, Mrs Snowbird set to work, making their nest more comfy. It had to be perfect. She sang a happy tune as she worked.

Unfortunately Miss Finch didn’t have good news for her next client, Mr BlueJay who was in trouble for jay walking, he would have to pay the fine of 50 worms.

Miss Angelica Finch had met with Mr Snowbird two days before his trial and was still certain that she could win his case. She was excited about being able to put another feather in her cap.

They had lucked out with the jury. There were no mockingbirds like her last case. Mockingbirds and old crows made for a tough jury.

Mr Snowbird had a jury full of chickens. They were easy to manipulate.

On the day of court, Mr Snowbird was nervous when he saw the angry bird, but Mrs Snowbird reassured him and glared at Mr Angry bird from across the room.

When the judge appeared, they all stood, and he surprised them all with his announcement.

“The case of Mr Angry Bird vs. Mr Snowbird has been dismissed.” There was a loud Squawk from across the room.

“Silence, Mr Angry Bird!”

Angry bird was red in the face, but he was silent. The snowbirds thought smoke would come out of his head soon.

The judge gave him a stern look and continued … “The case has been dismissed because it appears that the jury has flown the coop!”

That night, the snowbirds had a celebratory dinner of the finest slugs ever with Mrs Angelica Finch, who added another feather to her cap.
