Christmas Spirits

3 days before we get to greet each other a Merry Christmas, here’s what I have come to realize:

Social media, for all its many intent, does not work effectively as a deterrent para kumonti ang masasamang ginagawa ng tao. Sure, these menaces to society have already been castigated, bashed, and punished perhaps, for the unlawful acts they’ve committed to another human being; and we can keep posting or sharing videos to expose and make everyone aware of the repeated cases of animal cruelty, road bullying, drug problems, money scamming, and overall senseless violence that is happening around us. Nonetheless, these vicious scathing instances continue to grow and thrive like old TV reruns stuck on ‘repeat’ (with different “stars” every episode) and we are just waiting for the next sensational viral video to come across our feed and stand by until the situation blows over, where nothing really gets done except uncivilly bicker with one another on the comments section, in case the idea you put out there differs from your own. Yes, I’m talking about keyboard trolls.

The second one is quite ironic. Walang silbi ang pag display ng rosary [maging paglagay ng dashcam] sa loob ng mga kotse, SUV, truck, bus, at motor kung hindi din naman matino ang iyong ginagawang pagmamaneho sa daan. The sole purpose of having those sacred beads placed over or behind the rearview mirror–or any part for that matter–of a vehicle (the one which I believe to be true anyway) is for the driver and riding companions to be guided safely throughout their road travels, while maintaining the driver’s highest moral duty to constantly remind himself not to be a bully or a maniac, and act all devil-may-care on the road. It’s never used as a piece of cosmetic enhancement nor as a mystical amulet to make you feel invincible to bodily harm while driving like Evil Knievel on the streets.

Lastly, “Peace be with you,” is a solemn phrase we say to each other within the confines of the walls of a church–and, sadly, stays confined there.
