In honor of #InternationalWomensDay, I present pioneering book designer Amy Sacker. Born in the 1870s in Boston, Sacker was an artist, designer, and teacher with diverse talents. She even founded her own school, the Sacker School of Design and Interior Decoration, where she taught for over 40 years.
In keeping with a frequent theme on this blog, it’s interesting to note that her cover designs were often used by publishers for multiple, unrelated titles. Some of these are so ill-matched they may as well have been assigned at random. LOL at Their Canoe Trip!

At the end of every year, I like to create a recap of the the books I read and highlight my favorites. This year, I decided to do something a little different.
Click on the image or link below to watch a short video with highlights and assorted statistics. An entire year recapped in 2 minutes! I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve listened to a few audiobooks lately and I’ve noticed that sometimes a narrator utters a very obvious mispronunciation or verbal flub of some type. It makes me wonder whether any level of editing takes place during the production of an audiobook. If a narrator happens to notice that he has made a mistake, does he repeat the sentence and make an auditory flag or notation of some kind so that the mistake can be edited out? Or is is full speed ahead, never mind the occasional goof that makes its way in to the final product? Mistakes appear in printed books, despite multiple readings and the best efforts of copyeditors. Similarly, I assume it would be possible for an error to slip by in a narration, even if corrections are made during the recording process. I simply don’t know and would love to find out.
