Make me ’appy

17 Apr

I spent a lot of time this weekend experimenting with several of my iOS apps, including Paper, Keynote, iMovie, WeVideo, Adobe Voice and Enlight. I have figured out what they can do and, as is usually the case, discovered that there are many limitations that hamper my ‘creative genius’ and goals. (The exception is Enlight, which is damn near perfect.)

Sometimes there are no-brainer features missing for unfathomable reasons. Yes, dear programmers, I know, there are reasons. But they should be overcome! Some of these programs would be ever so much better with one or two added capabilities.

For example:
Keynote should be able to export a presentation into iMovie so that audio and a soundtrack can be added and the final product can be exported in a usable cross-platform format.

In Paper, the ability to crop/touch up photos, and combine blocks of text (not handwritten) and photos on the same page would be very useful.

Admittedly, Adobe Voice is designed to be dead simple and user-friendly, but layouts and transitions are very limited, and overall there isn’t much opportunity for customization. Ditto, WeVideo.

Yeah, yeah. Never satisfied, that’s me! But truthfully, isn’t it amazing to be able to do so much on a smartphone or tablet?
