Fire Dynamics Simulator

Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model designed to simulate fire-driven fluid flows, numerically solving the Navier-Stokes equations for low-speed, thermally-driven flows with emphasis on smoke and heat transport from fires. It is commonly used for smoke management system design, sprinkler and detector activation evaluation, and fire reconstruction.

FDS is often used with Smokeview for visualization and FDS+Evac for evacuation modeling. The software is developed and maintained by NIST.
