For managed Freelens updates, close Freelens before the installer runs. The Windows EXE and per-user packages can return 2 when the app is open during update, and the MSI package can return 1618, so configure Intune, ConfigMgr, PSADT, or similar tooling to notify the user and close Freelens before retrying.

Use the official Freelens GitHub releases page as the package source, then verify the installed version after the process is closed. This is especially useful on admin workstations where an open Kubernetes lens session can make an otherwise healthy package look like a generic installer failure.

Freelens updates can return Exit Code 2 if Freelens is open during the update. Close Freelens before managed upgrades so the installer can replace the active Kubernetes desktop-client files. Source: official Freelens source.
