KNIME Analytics Platform close-before-update note
For managed KNIME Analytics Platform updates, close running KNIME sessions before launching the installer. If the application is still open, Windows deployments can fail with Exit Code 1618, so Intune, ConfigMgr, or PSADT packages should detect or close knime.exe before the upgrade window.

KNIME Analytics Platform Windows installer and update pre-close note
For managed KNIME Analytics Platform updates on Windows, close KNIME/knime.exe before starting the installer. Treat both machine and user-context EXE packages as conflicting-process updates: if KNIME is open, updates can return Exit Code 1618 instead of applying cleanly.
KNIME’s official installation guide documents three Windows packaging choices: the Installer .exe extracts files, adds a desktop icon, and suggests memory settings; the self-extracting archive creates a folder with the installation files and no extra software required; and the zip archive can be extracted anywhere the user has full access rights. Choose the installer type based on whether the deployment should create desktop/system integration or simply unpack KNIME files.
