OpenVPN profile locations and GUI command note
For managed OpenVPN Community Client deployments, keep the profile location explicit. OpenVPN GUI scans the per-user folder C:\Users\username\OpenVPN\config and the machine-wide folder C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config for .ovpn files. Profiles placed under C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config-auto are for persistent or pre-started connections handled by the automatic service, so do not mix that folder with ordinary user-launched VPN profiles unless that service behavior is intended.
The OpenVPN GUI README also documents command-line control options such as importing a profile with openvpn-gui.exe --command import "path\\profile.ovpn", disconnecting active tunnels with --command disconnect_all, rescanning configuration folders with --command rescan, and exiting the GUI with --command exit. These are useful for post-install profile staging, remediation scripts, and user-notified update workflows.
Official source context: OpenVPN publishes the Community Client for Windows at openvpn.net/community, and the Windows GUI project documents the profile folders and command-line options in github.com/OpenVPN/openvpn-gui.
