Power BI Desktop silent install and update handling
For managed Power BI Desktop deployments, use Microsoft’s documented installer properties rather than relying on an interactive first run. Microsoft documents silent switches such as -quiet, -silent, -passive, -norestart, and properties including ACCEPT_EULA=1, LANGUAGE=de-DE, and DISABLE_UPDATE_NOTIFICATION=1. A copy/pasteable example is PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe -quiet LANGUAGE=de-DE ACCEPT_EULA=1.
Close Power BI Desktop before managed upgrades. The x64 package can return success while the update still fails if the desktop application is open, so configure PBIDesktop.exe as a conflicting process in Intune, ConfigMgr, or PSADT for reliable patch windows.
Microsoft also notes that Power BI Desktop is updated monthly and only the latest version is supported, which is useful when deciding whether to package the Store app or the downloadable single executable for enterprise users.
