Sonos Controller and S1 Controller download/update note
For managed Sonos desktop-controller packaging, distinguish the current Sonos Controller from the legacy S1 Controller before caching installer media. The official Sonos support downloads page exposes separate Windows downloads, and the Sonos redirect links resolve to versioned Sonos_*.exe binaries rather than a stable filename.
Use the current-controller redirect https://www.sonos.com/redir/controller_software_pc2 for the modern Sonos app and https://www.sonos.com/redir/controller_software_pc for S1 Controller packages. If you maintain local content for Intune, ConfigMgr, or other software distribution, refresh the cached EXE from the official download page when packaging a new version and avoid mixing S1 and current-controller detection rules. Official source: Sonos support downloads.
Close the Sonos desktop app before running managed updates. Both the current Sonos Controller and S1 Controller MSI packages can return Exit Code 1 when the controller is open during an update, so deployments should prompt, close, or defer before replacing the desktop controller rather than updating over an active session.
