Sigil prerequisite note

For Sigil Windows packages, stage the Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable x64 before installing or updating Sigil. Both machine and user-context x64 deployment flows can fail if the runtime dependency is missing.

Use the official Sigil project site for release/download links, install the Visual C++ x64 runtime as a prerequisite in Intune, ConfigMgr, RMM, or PSADT, then verify the Sigil Add/Remove Programs DisplayVersion after the installer runs.

Also close Sigil before managed updates. Windows EXE x64 and per-user x64 updates can return Exit Code 5 when Sigil is open during the update, so use conflicting-process handling or a user prompt before retrying.

For managed Sigil deployments, preinstall Microsoft Visual C++ v14 x64 Redistributable before running the application installer. Treat the runtime as an explicit prerequisite or dependency so install and update detection runs only after the required component is already present. Source: official Sigil source.
