VirtualBox close-before-update and MSI extraction note

For managed VirtualBox updates on Windows, close running VirtualBox components before invoking the installer. Oracle VM VirtualBox 6/7/latest packages can return Exit Code 1 if the application is open during an update, so configure VirtualBox UI/VM processes as conflicting processes in Intune, ConfigMgr, RMM, or PSADT before enforcing the upgrade.

For source and packaging, use the official VirtualBox downloads page. The VirtualBox User Manual documents extracting the Windows installer with VirtualBox-<version>-<revision>-Win.exe -extract, then installing the extracted MSI with msiexec /i VirtualBox-<version>-<revision>-Win.msi; keep that extraction/MSI step explicit if your deployment tooling needs MSI handling.

For managed Oracle VM VirtualBox 7.x/current deployments, pre-stage the Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable x64 runtime before running the Windows installer. Keep the runtime in prerequisite detection along with any close-before-update checks for running VirtualBox components.
