Windsurf close-before-update note
For managed Windsurf updates, close Windsurf before the update starts. If the IDE is open, the update can fail with exit code 1618, so use close-before-update handling before retrying the installer.

Windsurf update applicability note
Windsurf changed its Windows Add/Remove Programs versioning around the 1.8.0 release: older installs could report a VS Code-derived version that is numerically higher than the new Windsurf app version. In Intune update workflows that compare installed DisplayVersion values, the 1.8.0 update may therefore evaluate as not applicable on endpoints with those older builds.
For affected devices, deploy the full Windsurf application package once instead of relying on an update-only deployment. After the endpoint has a Windsurf-versioned ARP entry, normal update applicability should be much less likely to be blocked by the old VS Code-style version value.
For managed Windsurf updates, close Windsurf before running the Windows installer or update. If the editor is left open, the EXE update can fail with Exit Code 1618, so Intune, ConfigMgr, RMM, or PSADT deployments should include a Windsurf-specific pre-close or user-prompt step and retry instead of treating the first failure as a generic installer problem.
