Journey to Kazakhstan

All about my international adoption from Kazakhstan

About Me

Hi, my name is Amy.  I am a 37 year-old single woman living in the suburbs of Chicago.  I work at a family-owned business that manufactures items for the commercial construction industry.  This blog was created to chronicle the adoption process so it can be shared with my child when she is older.  I hope it will also be useful to future adoptive parents that find themselves on the same journey.

Man can you say pale? I think my skin is so white it is glowing in ghostlike fashion. I need a tan. LOL

LOL. I would prefer to acquire my tan on an extended vacation to the Keys but that is not going to happen – plus I don’t want to wrinkle….so I guess I better invest in some spray on stuff – but then most likely I will be an even less attractive shade of orange….so I guess white as a ghost will have to do.

Good to hear everything is going well! I always worry when too long has gone by and there isn’t any update. I wonder to myself – is it going well? – or is it mass chaos? I figure a little of each at first is about right. You have a Happy New Year as well!

Was surprized to see you posted pictures already. Thought you had to wait for the adoption to be finalized. What a beautiful child and happy too.

Hi Amy,

We are just beginning the process of selecting an agency to adopt from Kazakhstan. We have it narrowed down to 3 agencies & are trying to get others input on any of these 3. I’ve visited MANY blogs (love yours) but I can’t find a site that I can ask this on (Adoption.com does not list Kazakhstan as one of their countries). Any advice on a site to check out?

Thanks,
Allison

Go to http://www.yahoo.com Once there click on the Groups tab. It will take you to the yahoo groups site. Search the yahoo groups site for adoption agency research. This should bring up a group that you can join that will have other PAPs and APs as members that are trying to figure out the same thing you are. You can ask very specific and pointed questions about each agency and get very specific unbiased information and comments back. This was the best source I found (other than blog recommendations) for figuring out which agency to go with and which ones to not go with. It is hard to find specific recommendations on a website because of the liability one would incur listing these things on your website. Good luck with your search!

Hi Amy,
I love your blog and am grateful you took such interest and time to inform others about the roller coaster of intl adoption. My husband and I met you at an ARK fundraiser over the summer. We held back on contacting you, not sure if things would really move ahead (as you know there were several delays with the embassy). We kept praying things would move along and today we got word from Maeven that our dossier is in Ust-Kamenogorsk! I didn’t realize until I looked at your blog again that is the area you went to. We are looking forward to traveling, either in February or in March at the latest.

My very best wishes and thanks to you and Karina,

Shashona Chau
