Rrrret's Get Rrrready to Rrrrumble!!!

12.30.2004
Ella has really stepped up her kicking of her Mommy. I should say punching since it is being felt all across the top of my stomach. Also, if I press in on my belly she will punch right where I pressed. She's rebelling already! It is actually nice to feel her and know she's in there and healthy....maybe even a little too healthy and strong!

"Here's Looking at Me, Kid."

12.05.2004
Today at church I couldn't help but notice everyone looking at my tummy. I guess it's a good thing since it is claer that I am pregnant and out of that awkward, "Is she pregnant or just fat?" stage.

I am feeling really good and getting more sleep lately. Ella is kicking more than ever and seems to not have a period of rest anymore...just kicking all day long. I am used to it, so it's not interfering with my sleep any more.

These days I spend a lot of time wondering what she will be like. And what she will look like. And what kind of personality will she have? The range of what she might look like is so broad in my mind. She could be fair with red hair or have dark hair and eyes like me when I was little or have sandy hair like Matt's. I am excited to meet her.

Death by SEAT BELT !!!

12.03.2004
Today I went to my monthly OB/GYN appointment. Matt was at work and Jon and Liz are in new York for the weekend, so they said I could use their car to go to my appointment while they were away.

I hop in 20 minutes before my appointment, drive to the hospital, park in the underground parking garage and try to exit the car. The only problem is, their drivers' side seatbelt was broken. The little square you push in to release the buckle was missing. And, you guessed it, I was trapped! I tried and tried to push where the little square SHOULD have been...No luck. Then I grabbed a pen and tried to stick it in to free the buckle...No luck. Then I started screaming for help like a little girl...No one could hear me. I continued to scream for help while trying desperately to free myself.

I tried to loosen the seat belt, but it was totally tight. Then, it became clear that I was going to have to either cut the seatbelt or find a way to wiggle out. I began to wedge my head out from under the shoulder strap, screaming while It ripped my face off. Then I had to find a way to slide out from the lapbelt. This is no easy feat when one is 6 months pregnant. I eventually had to lay across the emergency brake and twist my legs out, then slide onto the passenger side floor. Such a graceful moment.

I arrived 10 minutes late to my appointment, out of breath, with red-face from the shoulder strap scrape and lipstick smeared on my white t-shirt from head contortion. The nurses and Dr. Kinghorn laughed and laughed....at my expense.

My worst nightmare realized...

12.02.2004
I had this dream last night that Ella was a born and not very cute. I know, I know, ALL babies are cute. Still...one never know what is swimming around in that gene-pool.

I also keep having a recurring nightmare that I just forget to feed her for days. As Kezia said, "A baby won't LET you forget to feed it for more than 4 hours." I have had this dream over and over again since I first got pregnant. At least cousin Heidi has the same one.

Another ultrasound...Another ambiguous gender prediction.

12.01.2004
I went for another ultrasound today. My doctor said the last one was not clear enough to rule out any problems, so I went back. My sister-in-law, Liz, went with me since Matt had to work.

It went well. Of course, the sonographer can't say if there is anything wrong, but she did confirm our due date again and also tried to see the gender. Once again, our modest little child was crossing her legs so the sonographer said it looked like a girl, but she also wasn't sure. Oh man, if this kid is a boy, we will be in for quite a SHOCK!

We are heading to Layton tonight to pick up a free Christmas Tree that Dennis and Louise are nice enough to give us. I am excited to set up some Christmasy things in our house and really get into the holiday spirit! Our Christmas cards have finally been mailed and I am thrilled that we got them out by December 1st (as was my goal). Go me!

My uterus is the size of what???!!!

11.30.2004
Today I was at Michael's Crafts buying supplies for our cub scouts to make a "Den Doodle", which is a tracking system for their achievemnets to keep them motivated until they receive a patch. As I was walking out a woman held the door for me and asked when I was due. I guess that means I am officially "showing" enough for my pregnant state to be obvious. I'm okay with that. At least people aren't thinking I'm just plain fat anymore.

Our baby book says that my uterus is now the size of a basketball....HOLY COW! That could explain it! A uterus starts out the size of a woman's closed fist. That's really some growth. Happily, I have great maternity clothes that Big Lou and Dennis got for my Christmas present. They have plenty of room left in them to grow!

If it walks like a duck...

11.28.2004
I am beginning to waddle. In the store tonight I tried as hard as I could not to, but there's no way out. It's so interesting how this happens. One day you're walking like a normal human and then you become a duck? Shouldn't pregnancy be more feminine than this?

about me

11.25.2004
I am a 30+ year old wife and a mommy of three little girls, Ella (7), Evangeline (5) and Bianca (18 months). I live in Lancaster County, PA with my hubby Matt, where he works as a Health Administrator and where I am a Stay-At-Home-Mommy and a part time Professional Photographer.

Image
I have an unhealthy addiction to... crafts, Project Runway, creme brulee, blogging, simple carbohydrates and cool Indie music. I know every single word to every single song on the ABBA Gold album. It's a crowning achievement of my life and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I do just about everything artsy.  I love to sew clothes for my girls, quilt, knit, make felties, silk screen, create toys and on and on and on. Basically, if it's crafty...I DO IT!

Discouragement-A-Go-Go

11.17.2004
Today I feel discouraged. I am so tired and achy from walking around today at the mall that I feel like the next 4 months are going to be hard. It feels like my body can't do this. I know every pregnant woman feels that way. And then to think that on the horizon is this looming pain-fest that is child birth makes it worse.

To make things harder, some weepiness has started creeping into my world. Tonight I found myself crying for no reason at all. I thought I might be immune to this hormonal roller coaster, but apparently not. I worry about labour and staying organized once Ella comes and breastfeeding properly and never sleeping AGAIN and making our home nice for her and being a good wife while I am being a Mother.

I wanted so badly to be that cute pregnant woman who still always looks good. Unfortunately, I rarely put on make-up these days. I am getting so busy keeping up with laundry and keeping the house clean and things that should be normal and how much worse is it going to be when I have a baby? Are we destined to be that disastrous couple in the ward with the messy house and jam-faced kids?...I hope not, but today I doubt my own abilities.

The sonographer for me...

11.06.2004
We went to Alta View hospital today for a new Ultrasound. Matt had a friend at work who's roommate is a sonographer and said he would do an ultrasound for us for free. Of course, I made him a huge Banana Cream pie and took it with us to the hospital.

This ultrasound was GREAT! We got about 15 minutes worth of video of the baby. She was moving around a lot. He said it was a girl and we got to see her kicking her mommy, sucking her fingers and yawning. It was so wonderful. Here's a first look at the little chingeroo!

Why are you so NAUGHTY!

11.05.2004
Everything is going well and Emmy is feeling really great. We first felt a kick about a week ago and now little Ella is kicking with a vengance. The little fighter won't quit! It went from "Wow! She's kicking...how special!" to "Please stop...it's 3 AM...YOU'RE NAUGHTY!" in one week.

We went to our diagnostic Ultrasound today and everything is looking good. Our due date is still March 27th and we confirmed her female status. Sadly, our android-like Sonargrapher showed us the little face and then never took that picture. Then handed us a sheet of photos of a spine, knee, ribcage and an arm. She's lame! We are possibly going in tomorrow for a free ultrasound from our friend in which the whole session will purely be "glamour shots". Hopefully we can e-mail one of those out soon.

The Kicking Begins

10.30.2004
Last night we had a Pumpkin Carving Party at our house and in the evening I felt definite stirrings in my belly. I had felt little flutters before, but was unsure if it was little Ella. There was no doubt anymore.

Then tonight we had dinner at Matt and Jenny Meese's house and after eating sat down to watch a Halloween movie. Then I felt flutterings and little kicks. It lasted for about 15 minutes and during that time both Matt Ahern and Jenny Meese put their hands on my belly and felt little kicks.

EMILIE SAYS, "Now it is real! THERE'S A LITTLE HUMAN IN THERE!"

MATT SAYS, "It was really exciting to be able to picture that little baby in there kicking and to feel it. It made things seem real."

"Back in the Saddle Again"

10.24.2004
I came back from the hospital AGAIN today. After another week of Kidney madness...adness...adness, I pased two stone early this morning and was released just as the doctor was coming in to take me to surgery. I know many people in teh family were fasting for me and little Ella during this time and I really feel the hand of Heavenly Father in my recovery.

I am feeling great now, just a bit tired. I have had no pain in the kidneys at all. The nurses came and checked Ella's heartbeat every day and she is doing fine. What a little fighter! I feel like things may be more peaceful now for the remainder of this pregnancy...here's hoping.

It's a Girl!

10.17.2004
Today I came back from the hospital. All week I had a lot of pain in my Kidneys and was finally admitted to St. Mark's Hospital on Friday afternoon. I had been quite sick and was very dehydrated so having the IV helped a lot.

While we were there we had an ultrasound to look at my Kidneys and Bladder on Saturday morning. I tried charming the ultrasound tech and made sure to tell him that we were wanting to know the baby's gender (just in case he happened to be in that general area during the ultrasound). The charm worked, he did look and told us we are having a girl! We are so excited and have decided to name her Ella Bannatyne Ahern.

Ella's due date, March 27th, is my Great-Grandfather Bannatyne's birthday.
