The UP 844. It is the last steam locomotive delivered to the UP and the only one, never retired. Read more about it here.
We heard this train come through a few weeks prior to this, but it secretively stayed and left. It was headed down to Kansas. It has the most beautiful train whistle that I have ever heard. Very calming and haunting. It really is beautiful. I was sad that we didn't get to see it.
So how did we end up seeing it? Well, it stopped into town on it's way back home in Wyoming and Ashton caught wind of it at work, came home, loaded us all up for a surprise, and vwalla! There was the train.
Since I've had a little boy who was enamored by trains, who when he was about 18 months old, only wanted to watch train clips on you tube all day long, I've kinda gotten interested in them and knew this was pretty special. It is kind of a pretty train, too, dontcha think?
Juliette was even excited about it
Here were our attempts to take Dexter's picture with the train,
and yes that is red Popsicle on his shirt and no, I didn't change him, and no, it didn't stain it, and yep, he still survived.
Mommy's turn.
Daddy and Dex. Check out how tall those wheels are!
The train was at the Golden Spike Monument in CB. So we knocked off another thing to see while we are here.
We didn't get to hear it's whistle again, but it was fun to actually see it!
