What is a Hackathon and what should I expect to get out of this event? 

A hackathon is an event where participants will use data science resources to create solutions to different problems in an intensive, collaborative environment. On key event dates, you will hear from expert keynote speakers, experience guided mentorship, have the opportunity to win prizes, meet new people, and learn new technologies!

Hackathon Challenge

As a team, you are tasked with choosing a problem using the - TBD. You must leverage your coding/programming skills to solve problems you see around you and in your lives!!! How will you code a better world? 

 

Last year’s winning team project on the theme TECH FOR GOOD is: Fake News Detector – This team used deep learning to classify news as fake or real, based on the professionalism it was written with

Requirements

Submission Guidelines

  • Sign up on Devpost - DevPost (tbu) 

  • Required submissions:

    • No more than 3 min video that covers: the problem statement, data to support the problem, your solution, and most importantly how your solution meets the Tech For Good Theme 

    • Your Code (Github link, zip upload, whatever works)

  • Optional submissions:

    • Flowchart of your design

 

  • Important Pointers:

    • The project title must contain Project Name & Team Number. Example : [Health Tracker by Hackohlics Team - 45]

    • Video demo of max 3 mins is compulsory

    • Don’t forget to add Github/Gitlab repo link

  • Ideation
    How solid is the idea? Is it worth exploring and applicable to people? How well does it apply to the theme?
  • Innovation
    How crisp, new and creative is the idea? How unique is it?
  • Technical Functionality & Design
    How much did technology play a factor? How much does design, coding and implementation sell the story? Does technology drive the idea?
  • Presentation
    How well did the team work together to present their idea? How well did they brand their idea and "sell" it to the judges? Was it communicated effectively?
  • The "WOW" Factor
    Does this idea and project really shine above the rest? How does it overall impress the judges and make them think about the idea itself, or the approach or the technology embraced?
