Jason turned 7!

Image
I told Jason he could have a very small friend party this year because he had a large one last year so he chose his two best friends, Finn and Ben, to go to McDonalds with him. These 3 boys were so funny to watch and listen to!

Checking out yet another new Lego set.

His beloved Nintendo DS. He has told us numerous times that this is the best birthday present he has ever received.

10 things I love about Jason
1. He always wants Andie to have as much as he does. He willingly and on his own accord will give her some of his money so she can buy some candy or a small toy if he is going to. When he got paid $200 for a medical study he participated in the first thing he said was that he wanted to buy something for Andie.
2. He is a fantastic reader. It may be the only thing he got from me, besides his looks.
3. He is very curious and although this can drive me crazy at times, I actually find it incredible some times the things that he comes up with and the questions he asks.
4. He loves music. Kevan caught him singing "Love Me Do" by the Beatles today so we put some Beatles on and he listened to it while building some Lego's.
5. He will try anything.
6. He's not picky at all.
7. He's really fun to go grocery shopping with, he's a great helper (as long as Andie isn't there also).
8. He still likes to snuggle with me.
9. He has an incredible memory. He recently had to memorize a poem for school. They had 3 weeks to memorize it and present it to the class. He memorized in 2 days.
10. He's really, really funny! He loves to make people laugh, especially Andie. There is nothing better than hearing him and Andie laughing together.

I can't believe I am old enough to have a 7 year old! I am so grateful to have 2 beautiful, healthy children!

I'm doing a lot of blog updating so continue looking at older posts too!

Why does every girl have to do it?

Image
This was one of the saddest days of my life! Here's how it happened: Jason asked me if I would play the Wii with him and of course I said yes. So I put a movie on in my bedroom to entertain Andie for a little while. I had been crocheting in my bed and had left my scissors on my nightstand. Jason and I were having a great time playing Mario Bro's when in walks Andie holding a rather large clump of her hair! I ran over to get a closer look and she ran away down the hall. As I followed her, I saw a trail of her hair leading to my bedroom and finally onto the bed. Was I surprised? Not at all, I was expecting it at some point and maybe that's why I was able to stay so calm during this incident (plus the fact that it was my fault). I had just hoped that maybe she wouldn't ever do this because we have told her a million times that you only cut paper, you never cut your hair or anyone else's hair. Apparently she doesn't listen very well.

Image
I called Cookie Cutters to see if they could get her in right away and we went in. The wonderful hair stylist did a great job in covering up Andie's special hair cut. She cut a couple inches off so it wouldn't look so much like a mullet. We are pretty lucky that she only cut one side and I can just part it a little further on the side and do a comb over to cover up her other side. Unfortunately the only thing I can do with it now is put a head band in it, which completely hides it, but I loved doing fun things with Andie's hair. :( She has been really good about wearing her head bands and she will just have to continue wearing them until the shortest piece is to her chin and then we will cut it again in a cute little bob.

This was taken the day after and I have to say she still looks pretty darn adorable. Why do I want another girl?!

Catch Up!

Aaaaah! I'm starting to play catch up with my blogging today, realizing I have way too much to blog about! I'm going to start completely out of order with something that made my heart melt yesterday. My 10 year old niece, Ashlynn, had to write an essay in school about her hero and she wrote it about me! I, in no way, feel like I deserve this but it was so sweet that I wanted to share so here it is...

My Hero

To me, heroes are people with strong hearts and courage. Heroes are always willing and generous. My hero is my aunt Jill.

My aunt is like a healthy flower in the beginning of summer. She is always willing and helpful. Whenever my mom leaves on a trip, she will always stay with my siblings and me. She has two children now, but always helping.

One experience I have had with her was when my mom was going to have a baby soon, and our Christmas decorations were still up in March! My mom was really sick so my aunt decided to come and help. When she got to our house and saw all the decorations up, she asked my mom if she could take them down. My family was so glad my aunt did that. If she hadn't, the decorations would have been up all year!

Like I said, she is always helping someone. Soon, my aunt is coming to stay with me while my mom and dad go on vacation to Florida. I am so excited because she is so full of laughter and spunk. My family can always count on her because she is so awesome.

My aunt will always be my hero no matter what happens. She is always there for me and I love her.

Isn't that the sweetest thing ever? I love you too, Ashlynn! You can ALWAYS count on me! You are such a beautiful, thoughtful and fun girl. I love doing nails and hair and talking to you. Thank you for always making smile!

Our fun Thanksgiving traditions!

Sorry no pics for this one, but we didn't take any. Just thought I'd share a little about what we did for Thanksgiving since it was a blast! Thursday is always spent with my Dad and his side of the family. We had a great dinner and then had a few cousins over and played numerous, hilarious rounds of Catch Phrase, music edition, in which my dad used the word "homeys" and I thought a certain song title was, "making love is hard to do"! Seriously so much fun! Friday is always spent with my Mom. About 9 years ago my mom came up with this fantastic idea of having an annual "Turkey Bingo" game in which each person brings 1 gag gift and 1 good gift and then we play bingo for the gifts. Kevan and I made out pretty good this year with gifts including a camping cot, a beach mat, the new pictionary man game and 2 really special ornaments that likely won't end up on our tree. Other favorite gag gifts this year included a pink and black size 44D bra for my bro-in-law, a Snuggie (which came in handy at the movie theater where my sister and I saw New Moon twice in one day) and probably the all time best gag gift ever- The Manhood (which went to my other bro-in-law)! Beware, it is pretty much exactly what it sounds like!

I also attempted Black Friday shopping and walked away with nothing! I will NEVER do it again and I will forever more have all my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving! I can't find anything I need! If anyone knows of where I can get any Zhu Zhu Pets without paying $50 for them or waiting in line for hours, please let me know, I need 2.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

ImageWe love going to Engh Gardens each year for a little hay maze and spooky fun.

ImageJason played some coach pitch baseball this fall and did great! He's great at hitting, even hitting a few grand slams, and getting better at catching and paying attention. Next up for him is hockey!

We've also started going to Cornbelly's down at Thanksgiving Point every year. They have corn mazes and rides and slides and good food, it's generally a blast. This year however I spent nearly the entire time in the porta potty. I think I had food poisoning and we ended up having to leave after an hour and a half. I felt soooo bad because the kids were having so much fun, but they did get to do a few things they wanted. Hopefully next year we will be able to stay a lot longer. We are enjoying our fall so far and looking forward to the holidays! Halloween pics coming up next.
