Preschool Fun: Letter Quick Queen of Quincy's Quest

So, I was tasked with teaching the letter "Qq" and wanted to come up with something fun do to with it that keeps the kids busy and learning.  Then I remembered the book, Dr. Seuss' ABC's and for the letter q he used, "The quick Queen of Quincy and her quacking quacker-oo".  An idea began to form around the words queen, quest, quacker-oo and so the Quick Queen of Quincy proclaimed a quest to find her Quacking Quacker-oo!

The kids were given their quest with tasks to accomplish throughout the kingdom before they could solve the puzzle of the missing quacker-oo.

Court Jester: Played Duck, Duck, Goose, but changed it to Quack, Quack, Honk

Linguist: Taught the letter "Q" and did a worksheet.  They also learned that the letter "Q" is shy and needs a friend and that's why "U" is always with him.

Adviser to the Crown: Put pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters into jars and had the kids guess which jar had the most and least.  Then we counted by 1's and by 10's to see which had the most and which had the least.

Master Musicians: Played musical chairs with "Q" words.  I didn't have enough chairs so I taped the pictures to the floor and the kids walked around in a circle.  When the music stopped, I called out a one of the pics.  If they were on it, they would either do a dance, take a bow, curtsy, etc.

Royal Artist:  Originally I was going to have the kids go look for things outside to do a rubbing of on a piece of paper.  But, since I ran out of time, I turned that into putting together a duck for the queens missing quacker-oo.  The duck would have been the last part and they get to keep the quacker-oo.

All said and done, it was a lot of fun and the kids seemed to enjoy it!

Update and Summer Adventures

Obviously I have not been keeping up the blog like I probably should.  So, here is my attempt at a catch up since my last post...which appears to have been back before Christmas.  As Piglet would say..."Oh d-d-d-dear!"

I know there are a lot of adventures that I haven't mentioned here...like the trip the kids took to Washington with Scott while I was at Girls Camp and the Anniversary trip Scott and I took to the Ozark's and to visit with friends in Illinois.  There was also a family camp out at Aaron and Kate's place.  That was a lot of fun!  It's been a wonderful summer so far.  Next adventure...School!
