Katie loves drawing and crafting. She is creative and loves to make things beautiful.
Ashley is incredible. She is a talented athlete, hard-working and so much fun. Her enthusiasm and drive is such a fantastic quality.
Katie was playing at the Johnsen's house and running through their kitchen when someone opened the oven door to check on dinner. She was running through right then and hit the corner of the oven door right on her forehead. I took her to the Memorial Clinic for stitches. It was our family's first set of stitches. She was nervous but, did very well. We were lucky to have the nurse be our neighborhood friend, Kathleen Rich.
Katie loves preschool at Mrs. Palmer's. Her December program was in PJ's. She sang the songs so cute and is learning so much. She was embarrassed to go to school with a big bandaid but, she conquered that fear and realized it was ok.
Hailey in her first grade class with Mrs. Baxter. I do an art project with the class once a month and come help with a party about every other month. I love to see Hailey in class. She is very creative and wants things to be beautiful as well. She is a great friend and is kind, funny and inclusive.
Ashley loves her Jr. Jazz team! Dave is her coach again with a great group of her friends playing. Ashley is a fantastic player. She can dribble down the court really well, takes and makes great shots, can pass and has tons of steals. She loves it and its so fun to watch her hustle and play.
Ski Day for me with Hailey and Katie. Hailey skis in front, Katie follows and I follow her to help if Katie falls or if anyone needs a boost on a flat section. They are getting better each time. I must admit that my patience was too short with them this year. Skiing with two little ones who are on different levels is difficult and I'm anxious to get them better so they can join the bigger kids.
Andrew was unkind to Ashley and then felt badly. He wrote her a great apology note. It's not easy to really say sorry and I was proud of him. Andrew is an amazing boy. He is multi-talented, funny, smart and easy to love.
Some art from the month. These sweet cards were from Hailey who is always crafting and always giving gifts.
Andrew on his way home from a basketball game with Dave. He has a lot of basketball right now. At present he says its his favorite sport.
Paper Towel towers and knockdown. Nathan is all boy and loves to build and destroy, loves guns, army soldiers, tools and dinosaurs. Lately, each night he falls asleep easily in his crib and then at about 4am screams MOM until I come. He just wants to cuddle and sleep in my bed. I don't love getting up to go get him but, I do love cuddling with him. He is sweet as can be. He is so lovey to me and I honestly can't get enough of him. Unfortunately, he's kind of mean to Dave and often yells at him to go away for no reason at all. He'll outgrow that but, poor Dave.
Christmas Adam party at our house with Shawn and his family and Grandma Suzanne. We had a yummy dinner and lots of games and playing.
Christmas Eve was on a Sunday this year. It was wonderful to be there for sacrament meeting to hear the choir Christmas Songs.
Katie got her first set of stitches removed on Saturday (the 23rd). On Christmas Eve she and Nate were playing at home and she hit into an open door on her left eyebrow. Dave took her back to the Memorial Clinic and got her 2nd set of stitches. Kathleen Rich was the nurse again. Poor girl!
Ready for Christmas morning!
Christmas is here! The kids were excited and loved seeing the presents and stockings when they woke up. They first opened stockings and played in the family room for a while waiting for Nate to wake up.
Presents were about done when Andrew and Ashley realized there was nothing left for them but, they hadn't really gotten much except a few small things. Then Andrew got his iTouch which can play games, take pictures and text and facetime if he has wifi. I'm pretty strict about his time on it so he doesn't play much but, he does like it.
Ashley's big gift was a MoPed. It was wrapped but was labelled To June so she wouldn't be able to guess what it was. She unwrapped it and was so surprised and excited.
Then we had a special breakfast. Hailey set the table and made it fun! She is so fun and talented.
Katie has two bandages on her forehead and then rubbed makeup or ink near her eye that I didn't notice. Oh dear!
Present Time
At the end Nana and Papa pulled out 5 little boxes to give to Andrew, Ashley, Hailey, Liz and Will. Those 5 kids had each gotten 2 presents compared to the other kids' 3. When they opened them up they were sure excited to read that they were going on a trip to Disneyland in January! Their own parents paid for flights (a first flight for our kids) and Nana and Papa would treat to the hotel, food and Disney. I was the lucky adult that came along to help.
Another ski day for our whole group except Nathan, who was at Kim's house. We took Liz and Will with us too. We skied in two groups and then skied a couple runs altogether at the end.
Getting some energy out at the ward building with bikes, skits and being silly!
We had Liz and Will over for a sleepover. Here is some more googly eye fun in the morning.
On the last Sunday of 2017 Hailey and Katie each gave their first talk in primary. They were asked to talk about Christmas service or light the world activities. Hailey drew a picture of a goat and talked about how our family bought a goat at the Light the World vending machine. She told about how the goat would help a family and that she hoped they would name it spot. Katie drew a picture of cookies and talked about delivering cookies to neighbors. They both did an excellent job and I was very proud of them.
Hailey loves to create and that includes cooking. She learned how to make chocolate covered strawberries and had tons of fun doing it.
New Years Eve Party and Charlie's bday party.
The big kids watched the fireworks out in the freezing cold.
The little kids watched from inside. That was good especially when a firework fell over and started shooting right into the house. Yikes!
Nate and I headed home for a tub, some selfies and then bed at about 10:30. The rest of the group stayed to ring in the New Year at midnight.
2017 was full of blessings and learning. We are so grateful for each day. I am especially grateful to be a mom and to have my 5 precious children. I only wish time passed a little more slowly.
