Fishing in China

Chongming Island is a wonderful place to fish for some great species in China,......... these are some photos of Gong Lei's past catches...........

Fishing in China for Yellowcheck Carp ( Elopichthys bambusa )

Flight tend to delay often when I travel overseas,......... This time Hoe and I travel to Shanghai, China to meet up with Takeishi, Takuya & Takeshi from Japan. Together we will
try to fish for the Yellowcheek Carp at third largest Island of China "Chongming island" which is situated at the Yangtze River beside Shanghai city.........

Going through the Shanghai-Yangtze River Tunnel..........The grand Yangtze River bridge.............. Heading to our hotel................. the weather is not too good, it feels gloomy and dull and I worry about the fishing condition...............We had our lunch with everybody......... right after checking into the Tianhe Hotel........

During the lunch, immediately I tried this traditional Chinese Huangjiu 黄酒,.......It was fantastic!! I love it!....... Century egg and saute river shrimp.....Small crabs, little crayfish and some other kind of fish...... Sorry, I forgot its name........

Some hot boiled vegetables....... This was found in our bathroom,...... it was a surprize to know that they were actually selling vibratory condom here.......... Very curious. I wonder how it works......He He He! Everywhere you go in town, you can see some fireworks,.....Shanghai is now preparing the open ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo........First day of the morning ready to roll out of the hotel......What?!! Using a National Defense Vehicle?? For fishing??............

Time for breakfast....... we came to a little store where the local serve delicious Chongming Wonton 云吞 here............

Wonton here is freshly wrap in the traditional way.......Looks yummy!!........A big smile from Hoe...... it taste really good indeed........ Our fishing site at the North Lake where the local called it..........it is actually the estuary of the Yangtze River...........

Everybody getting ready for it................. But, it is very windy out here and cold too.......Do we need to fish like this........ It's very windy, I can't even cast a bit out.......Hoe is freezing............. Even Takeishi feels uncomfortable..........Unhooking the stuck lures...........Life is amazing,........ this little fella is out here crawling in this cold weather.......... Little river crab...........

Good stuff from our friend....... a Baijiu 白酒 (white liquor) a 40% alcohol........ Haah?! For the comsumption of the army??!..........

Now drinking is a good choice if you can't catch anything......... it is so cold and windy.........Eating out from our lunch pack..........Look at wind blow on the water surface.......... Woooo...........
Well, no fish for today.............Second day.......... Some scenic shots along the road side.............

Today we came to a private property for a try............. Our fishing site............ Takeishi caught himself a River Crab......... He He He!!!Takuya and his prey..... a frog?!....... Today yet no one caught anything............ except for Takeishi & Takuya, He He He.......

Chinese Carp..........River crabs........Naan..........Some specially made Chongming Cake.........They even serve pig noses............. Don't ask me, I dare not try. NO WAY man!!

Third day............ at Mingzhu lake...........

Gonglei caught a Seabass with his top water pencil..........

After a hard three days fishing of catching nothing and 3 miss bites,......... here comes my luck. I am the first and only one who caught the Yellowcheek Carp 鳡鱼( Elopichthys bambusa ) in this trip....... According to Gonglei I might be the first foriegner to catch a Kanyu (鳡鱼) in its native land....... What an honor for me to catch one of this rare species........ Great!!!

Close up of the Yellowcheek........... It swallowed the whole pencil popper from Nories's TEREJU.......... The hook set too deep down in it's jaw............ the fish bled to death after a few camera shoot...... Sorry, we took it back for eating............

Look nice........... and the taste is just ok.....so so only, not too bad.

Little nap after lunch......... our Shanghai host Gonglei seem a bit tired after all....... Thanks for everything my brother..........

Takuya even waded himself in the cold water just to try to get a better cast..............Mr. Siang caught a Mandarin Fish 桂花魚 (Siniperca chuatsi 鳜鱼) with his snatch fishing technique......
