Watching Caterpillars turn into Butterflies

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

The construction on the new condo's continues and it looks like they are prepping the pool area.  There will be a ground level pool and a rooftop pool as well.  It is a good place for Archie and I to walk to each day.

Image

The caterpillars that we have in the vine on the house have gone into cocoons and some of the early ones are turning into butterflies.  Apparently the caterpillars are quite nasty if they get on you and they leave a burn type sensation.  Anyway it makes for fun watching them do their thing.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing and waiting for sunset.  It was beautiful when it did arrive.

Ken fell asleep waiting.

We caught Wanda and Irwin and John and Susan strolling down the beach on their way for supper.  John and Susan will be heading back to the Great White North tomorrow!!!  See you again!!!

And they walked off into the sunset!!

The sun has climbed all the way up to the top of the mountain and will begin its descent into the ocean over the next couple weeks.  Winter is going fast this year and it won't be long before we have to leave.  Good Nite!!!

Mmmm Chocolate

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Not much went on around here today.  I worked most of the day on the computer doing some of my housing stuff.  It always takes a couple days at the end of the month.  Archie and I did take a little walk back up to the condo construction because today there was a track hoe there prepping for the installation of the ground level pool.  There will be another pool on the roof I'm told.

Image

Susan and Wanda came by this afternoon and got some chairs and went and sat on the beach.  They seemed to enjoy being there and it wasn't long and Wanda was snoring!!!

Image

Not many people left on the beach for tonight's Archie walk.

Image

Tonight was blog catch up night so I got into the chocolate treats Isaiah and Kenia gave me.  They are very high quality chocolate and are they ever good.  That was my day.  Good Nite!!!

Water, Taco's and 5 Crowns

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Yep we were right.  We ran out of water this morning and had to call for a truck load.  He came and filled us to about 1/4 full (10000 liters).  Hopefully the town starts supplying more water again after having some issues at the well.

Image

Today is Thursday and Thursday is market day which means the Birria vendor is there with some tasty taco's for lunch.  I headed down and had a couple. Mmmmm.

Image

Next on the list was to get water.  8 bottles today.  They charge 15 peso's a bottle which is about 1.17 CND.

Image

When I got home I noticed that Jen had painted and set up her dinosaur in the herb garden.  Yes it had the little blue droppings behind it. lol

Image

I took a walk with Archie to see the progress on the big condo down the street.  They are starting to put in some of the sliding doors and I see and AC unit inside.  Progress is moving along.

Image

Sheri texted us later in the afternoon in a big panic.  I'm not sure if she was mortified or proud of her first white hair.  Every dad hopes to live long enough to see his kids grey or white hair.  I would love to see a few more please!!!!

Image

And to top off the evening, I invited myself to Wanda and Irwins to play 5 Crowns with them and Susan and John.  I have determined that it is a stupid game and I don't know why I continue to play it.  Irwin of course was the winner!!!  A good time was had by all.  Good Nite!!!

A Tour to the Petroglyphs

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Today we took a little tour to the Petroglyphs up near Alta Vista.  I guess this was the first time here for everyone but me, so I was the unofficial tour guide.  Susan and I have probably been here 4 times before so had some idea of the road.  The road is just a dirt trail for a couple of miles and narrow and goes through a river bed.  About the time you think you should turn around, you are there.  After you get parked up, it is about a half mile hike up to the waterfall at the far end.  There are petroglyphs all along the way and the trail is not really that rugged but you have to be careful.  We headed out like the jungle explorers we were.

When you get to the far end there are some pools in the rocks at the bottom of the water fall.  This time of year there is not much water coming down the falls.  Kirley was the only one with a bathing suit, so she got to explore the pools.

There was a little Mexican man there raking up the leaves and keeping everything neat and tidy.  He asked for 50 pesos each to help him with his work.  He has been here every time we have come and does lots of work to keep it nice.

Image

We finished up with a little lunch when we got back to the parking lot before heading for home.

Image

When we left there we went to Las Ayala because everyone has been talking about the Sea Elephant that is on the beach there.  Sea Elephants come on shore to do some skin maintenance which requires sun and sand.  He has been here a few days going in and out of the water so we thought we better see him.  He is being well protected by marine people so is under very little stress.  Everyone is being quite quiet and respectful. I forgot to take my phone so had to steal pictures off facebook, but this is exactly what we saw.

Heading for home we saw some nice looking horses on Chicken Street.  These ones were quite big and looked after very well.

All day long I had a hankering for liver and onions.  So when we got home, it wasn't long before I jumped on my bike and headed down to El Pollito for the best liver ever.

Best liver and onions in town.

Kenia had invited me to come to her house after supper for a wee visit.  I headed over there about 8 and sat and visited as best I could with 4 Spanish speaking girls babbling away.  They would stop and fill me in every once in a while but for the most part, they were having a girl conversation about who had the best friends.  Although I don't get a lot of what they talk about, I am so blessed that they even entertain having an old fart like me around.  They all call me dad and make sure I have food and agua fresca.  They were into the bubblies tonight though.

We have been having some problems with the town supplying enough water for our needs and tonight when I checked the cistern, the water level had dropped dramatically.  I bet we will run out of water by morning, but there is nothing we can do until we can get the water truck to come tomorrow.  The stick is 8 ft long which is how deep the cistern is and you can see the water mark way at the bottom indicating 1 foot of water.

We did manage to see another nice sunset tonight after a busy day.  Good Nite!!!

Lots of Fresh Produce in Mexico

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

This morning there was a backhoe working on the beach down from us.  Over the summer the ocean had washed a bunch of sand up against their sea wall and it was time to move it.  I always like watching the backhoe work because I used to own one, but I am very critical.  This job took about 2 hours and if I was doing it I'm sure that 30 minutes is all that was needed.  A good job when it was done.

I tried something different for lunch today.  I remember back when the kids were young, Karalee used to eat noodles in the styrofoam cups by the case.  She was always boiling some water and making one.  So today I grabbed one from the store and you know what?  It was great.  Camaron flavour!!! I don't know why I waited so long.

Image

One of the things I enjoy in Mexico is all the fresh fruit and veggies that are on the shelves.  I know that lots of it is imported but it looks so yummy.  It all has a way fresher taste than what we get at home.  Don't tell me you don't want some right now!!!

The reason I was at the veggie shop is because there is a meat shop next door and I went to buy some hamburger and pork chops.  The pork chops are more like a ham flavour and texture and are so good even in the frying pan.  So along with a pot of boiled potatoes with some carrots thrown in, I was set for supper. Mmmmm

Image

After supper we played some 65 down at the palapa.  Rhonda was the winner..... AGAIN!!! Its a great way to pass an hour or so with friends.

Image

And we were treated to a sunset again tonight.  Good Nite!!!
