Graduation season is about more than ceremonies—it’s about preparing students for what comes next. Recently, Wilson Talent Center students in the Criminal Justice and Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics programs celebrated senior send-offs filled with recognition, encouragement, and lessons from professionals already working in the field. At Wilson Talent Center, students gain hands-on experience across 20 career-focused programs designed to help them build real-world skills and confidence for life after high school.
Government can feel distant when you only read about it in textbooks. But for students in Spartan Project SEARCH, a recent visit to the Michigan Capitol turned civic learning into a real-world experience. From meeting with State Senator Sarah Anthony to observing activity inside the Senate chamber, students gained a firsthand look at the many people and moving parts that help serve communities across Michigan.
What if learning about careers felt more like solving real-world problems? The Michigan Youth Future Flight Challenge is giving students across the state the opportunity to design sustainable flight solutions, work alongside aerospace mentors, and discover future possibilities in STEM—all while competing as part of a fun, free virtual challenge. Hosted by the Women of the Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM), the four-week experience helps students build skills in engineering, business, creativity, and collaboration.
Science feels different when students can see where it might actually take them. Recently, Wilson Talent Center BioScience Careers students participated in national lab skill evaluations and welcomed researchers from Michigan State University for a hands-on lesson in plant biotechnology—including one former Wilson Talent Center student who returned to teach the next generation. Wilson Talent Center’s BioScience Careers program helps students explore fields ranging from biotechnology and microbiology to veterinary medicine, food science, and environmental careers through real-world, hands-on learning.
It’s been a busy—and exciting—few weeks for Wilson Talent Center’s Welding Technology students. From earning top honors at the Ferris State Welding Competition to touring one of the nation’s most advanced scientific research facilities at Michigan State University, students are seeing firsthand how skilled trades power industries, innovation, and discovery. The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at MSU is a world-leading nuclear science facility where researchers study rare isotopes to better understand matter, medicine, and the universe itself.
Winning first place in the Michigan ProStart Tabletop Design competition opened the door to something bigger for Wilson Talent Center Culinary Arts students Finney and Ruby: a behind-the-scenes experience at the iconic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. From touring event spaces to helping set up a lunch buffet, the visit gave students a firsthand look at the creativity, precision, and hospitality that power Michigan’s hospitality industry. The Michigan ProStart competition helps students explore careers in culinary arts and restaurant management through real-world experiences and industry connections.
Choosing a future career can feel like a big question—especially in middle school. That’s why eighth-grade students from Mason and Dansville recently visited Wilson Talent Center to explore hands-on learning experiences in fields ranging from welding and culinary arts to sports medicine, cosmetology, technology, and more. The visits gave students a chance to see future possibilities up close while learning how career and technical education can turn interests into opportunities. Wilson Talent Center offers career-focused programs that help students build real-world skills and explore pathways connected to college, careers, and industry certifications.
For Jameson and DT, learning the ropes at Michigan State University Linen Services is about more than workplace skills. Through Spartan Project SEARCH, the interns are building confidence, strengthening leadership abilities, and helping future students take their own first steps toward success. Spartan Project SEARCH combines classroom instruction with immersive workplace internships to prepare young adults with disabilities for meaningful employment and greater independence.
Students from Wilson Talent Center recently earned ribbons and recognition after submitting projects to the Michigan Industrial & Technology Education Society (MITES) Annual Student Competition and Convention.
Wilson Talent Center students continue to showcase excellence both in and beyond the classroom, recently earning honors through statewide machining competitions and national scholarship recognition.
