Fully Automated Luxury Improvisation

Fully Automated Luxury Improvisation

Jeff Surak

"Fully Automated Luxury Improvisation" is a "pop" album. There are melodies and rhythms which repeat, which for me are basic requirements for a pop song. Repetition. But here everything is fragmented, skipping and skittering out of control but never falling apart.

Arrangements in Grey and Black

Arrangements in Grey and Black

Bad Groupy

What happens when a band decides to go on tour after playing only one show? In 2023 the duo Bad Groupy embarked on an European tour with no plans or rehearsals. Each performance was truly a result of the moment in time and place. The instruments changed, ideas developed, refined, and abandoned. Sounds and objects were found and incorporated into performances. One memorable item being a 2-meter long piece of wood with piano wires, which was dragged onto buses and trains wrapped in a hammock as the duo made their way from city to city. "Arrangements in Grey and Black" captures two memorable concerts in Berlin and Warsaw during the summer of 2023. credits released March 3, 2025 Bad Groupy are: Kris Kuldkepp: objects, homemade instruments, electronics. Jeff Surak: tapes, electronics. zero216

Radiogymnasium

Radiogymnasium

Alexei Borisov and Georgy Orlov-Davydovsky

“Radiogymnasium” is a joint album of veteran of Russian experimental music Alexei Borisov and the representative of younger generation of Moscow electronic scene Georgy Orlov-Davydovsky, the informal leader of powerful Moscow Noise Manufacture. All tracks have been recorded for about half a year at different improvised sessions, taken place at Ground Hodynka Gallery, High Tower Studio and during the live set of the duo at the legendary Noise and Fury festival at the Dom Cultural Center. Both musicians use wide spectrum of sound sources: custom synths and noise generators, diy objects, tapes, microphones, effects, fm and short wave radios etc. This work is somehow inspired by the figure of Alexander Popov, Russian physicist and inventor of one of the first radio receiving devices. Radiogymnasium is a college named after Popov, it’s rather famous and respectable institution among specialists and fans of science and sound art. After the final editing and mastering by Orlov-Davydovsky, we have an album balanced between dense drone, intelligent noise, musique concrete and obscured electro. released December 2, 2022 Alexei Borisov: electronics Georgy Orlov-Davydovsky: electronics, editing, mastering, artwork. Backfire

Backfire

Genital Warts

The tracks on this cassette are part of a group of tracks found on an old computer after all the recordings/backups had been lost as a result of several thefts experienced by both of us at different times and in different places, that's why one of the titles we had thought of was Theft Deaf Tape, but later changed to Backfire as a general, and much more positive, omen of the reunion... So these tracks were never mixed but are just rough mixes at the time useful for a quick pre-listening, they were recorded at Basment and Ku Studio in Naples and Casa dei Pirati in S.Agata de Goti (BN) between 2016 and 2019. A big thanks goes to Jonathan aka Abstral Compost and DJ 2Phast who gave us the opportunity to play together and experiment in various directions with the practice of improvisation. released May 19, 2022 GENITAL WARTS are EKS: samples, tape, electronics; Mario Gabola: janky made D.I.Y. analog electronics Recorded by Genital Warts in Naples, between 2016 and 2019. Mixed by Genital Warts, mastered by dj EKS. Released by Zeromoon in Washington DC, May 20, 2022. Painting by Diego Miedo. Artwork adaptation by Brodo.
