2011 was good to me.

What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
rode a camel, waded in the persian gulf, visited the tallest building in the world,

wrote a 15 page paper (the first of many i suppose), learned a song on the mandolin,
wakeboarded in the rain at hebgen.

Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
i don't even remember last year's resolutions so obviously not.

and yes, i will make more and attempt to keep them!

Did anyone close to you give birth?
no...

What countries did you visit?
The United Arab Emirates

What would you like to have in 2012 that you didn’t have in 2011?
a car, dance skills (ha ha i struggle a little bit in that department), possibly an internship.

What dates from 2011 will be etched upon your memory, and why?
march 28-31: Education Without Borders Conference. completely changed the way i view

the world and educated me on issues i was not previously aware of.
made me rethink my education and what i want to do with my life. i'd say it was a giant breakthrough for me.
july 14: the harry potter midnight showing. what can i say?
i'm a big potter fan and this was a definite highlight of my summer.

What was your biggest achievement of this year?
miraculously getting an A in my online class, going out of my comfort zone

and traveling to the middle east with a group of people i didn't know.

What was your biggest failure?
PROCRASTINATING EVERYTHING.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
i hadn't thought about it until now...but no! i was lucky.

What was the best thing you bought?
blue scarf from Dubai and Tevas. (probably one of the best investments I've ever made)

Where did most of your money go?
this is a sad confession...clothes,food and school. what can i say? i'm a poor college student!

Did you meet anyone new this year who had an impact on your life?
i've met many new friends at school who have influenced me this year and i'm extremely grateful for that!

i'd also have to throw laura bush in there (even though i've never met her) reading her book
and learning more about her has definitely impacted me.

What did you get really excited about?
going back to school in august, the president's campaign kickoff, GOING TO DUBAI,

the chance to be so involved with the ambassador program, summer roadtrips.

What song will always remind you of 2011?
'samson' by regina spektor , 'i want you back' by colbie calliat ,

'can't go back now' by the weepies

Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
a) happier, i suppose.
b) lets just say they weren't kidding about the freshman 15...
c) definitely poorer.

What do you wish you’d done more of?
exercising, thank you note writing, complimenting, reading, smiling

no.

What was your favorite TV program?
modern family.

What was the best book you read?
Spoken from the Heart by Laura Bush

What was your greatest musical discovery?
thanks to the discoveries of my indie music loving friend sara--summer fiction, fleet foxes,

the head and the heart,
the decemberists and zee avi are some new favorite artists.

What did you want and get?
new opportunities. (leadership, travel, jobs).

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
less procrastination.

tucked-in shirts and skinny belts.

What kept you sane?
music, friends, and family (especially my parents)

Who did you miss?
my nieces, cedar city friends in the summer

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
laugh when things go wrong.
think big, believe in yourself and your ability to make things happen.
BE BOLD and take a risk.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"why am i making this hard on myself when there's so many beautiful reasons i have to be happy?" from happy by natasha bedingfield
"too many things i haven't done yet, too many sunsets i haven't seen..." from many the miles by sara bareilles

10 things that made this week happy:

1. spending hours and hours and hours and hours in the library with cheri. why is this a happy thing? because we wrote an awesome paper together and pretty much laughed our heads off while doing it.
2. my comm research class. there is never a dull moment in there. this week we began our final presentations and one group brought in homemade soup. much needed, and delicious.
3. i bought a new backpack for $10! i was in dire need of a new one!
4. events with kylee. she is one funny girl and has definitely caught on to my crazy abbreviations. as we like to say, "don't abbrev. unless you have a reas." ...and there is usually always a reas to abbrev! our motto: we are positive, we are flexible.
5. talking on the phone with my family.
6. jamming with courtney. (finally!)
7. supportive friends.
8. hanging out with (and actually seeing) my roommates.
9. getting to write a paper all about my family and how much we love james taylor and carole king.
10. lots of free delicious hot chocolate. yum!

i'm almost to mid-term with my online class...(yikes!/hooray!)
so there are definitely a few more long days ahead but then it's CHRISTMAS! i can't wait.

in joyful anticipation of the coming holiday, my professors have decided to overload their students with excessive assignment giving,  paper writing and test taking. how kind of them.

sometimes i feel like there are just not enough hours in the day.
