9-11 will always be remembered now for more than one reason........
Unfortunately for Brett's dad UMC became our home away from home for about 4 weeks, followed by about 3 weeks of rehab.
The evening of 9-11 Doug was headed down to Tucson to stay the night with us because he had a Dr. appointment the next day. We knew he had gotten off to a late start but it soon became later than we had expected & we knew something was not right. Brett was already out in hopes of finding his dad or finding a cop to find out if any accidents had been reported. Shortly after, he received confirmation that Doug had been taken to UMC. Because Brett was already about 15 min. out he went ahead to the hospital and I called for a taxi so I could meet him there. That was an experience all in its self! I'll just say I was never more relieved to have that taxi come to stop and to find myself still in one piece! Really nice old guy but I can definitely say I've experienced the scary taxi driver driving!
Anyway - long story short, Doug had gotten into a really hard rain right outside of Tucson, hydroplaned and rolled. An amazing young man stopped to help him and in the meantime another vehicle spun out of control and hit the truck which knocked them both. Luckily neither sustained worse injuries than they did. Doug broke quite a few ribs, his sternum and both sustained internal injuries.

Tubes, tubes and more tubes.
Daughter and wife are the accomplices on this - poor guy couldn't even defend himself.
It did bring a smile to his face when he came to - he didn't expect anything less.
Hanging out in the cafeteria
The staff in the ICU were amazing and so patient with us! We were grateful for family that were able to come down on the weekends and are so grateful that Doug is recovering and is still a part of our lives! We love our family so much!
