Weird right? I've never been much of a reader. It probably has something to do with the fact that I have to wear glasses when I read, but I have to get over that to pick some books for my 5th graders! My plan is to integrate my read aloud books with Social Studies. Fifth Grade Social Studies is U.S. History! {which I am SO excited about}
So far I've read Fever of 1793
I really liked it. Probably a little too hard for 5th graders, but Laurie Hulse Anderson is a GREAT author.
Then I read Sign of the Beaver.
I had A TON of teachers recommend this book to me, that they ALWAYS read it to their 5th graders. I was not so impressed.
Then I read The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. LOVED IT!
I will probably read this one to my class, just because I liked it so much!
The last book I have finished was Number the Stars
I thought it was a really cute book about WW2, but WW2 isn't that cute so I'm not sure how I feel about it.
I am currently reading:
If anyone has any other suggestions for historical fiction books about U.S. history, I'd love some suggestions!
In other news did you know you have to be a full time student to receive financial aid? Ya neither did I. I thought I would be taking 1 class during the spring, now I'm taking 3. The one I have to take ECE 323 aka Integrated Curriculum, which is really lame btw because it is geared towards k-2 grade and I am teaching 5th graders next year. The next class is the living prophets, and I am currently trying to decide between genealogy and stress management. I need to decide by TODAY. Has anyone taken either to help me decide?
