MACON, Ga. (4/16/2019) -- University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse student-athletes
Kamryn Corraro (Farmington, Minn.) and
Taryn McManus (Elora, Ont.) swept the Southern Conference weekly honors Tuesday afternoon with Corraro named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and McManus earning the Defensive Player of the Week award.
It's the first weekly honor for each player and the second time this season that Detroit Mercy (7-7, 3-1 SoCon) has swept the Southern Conference weekly honors. It's also the sixth and seventh time this season that a Titan women's lacrosse student-athlete has been named a player of the week.
Kamryn Corraro, a sophomore attacker, led the Titans in goals and points this past week, tallying nine goals and 11 points and scoring on all nine of her shots on goal. Corraro was integral in Detroit Mercy's 14-12 victory over SoCon rival Furman on Friday, scoring a career-high five goals, scoring on all five of her shots. Corraro then tallied a career-high six points in Sunday's 17-8 win over Wofford, posting four goals and two assists. Corraro has career-highs with 28 goals and 35 points in 2019.
Taryn McManus, a freshman midfielder, was a menace on defense for the Titans in a pair of games, totaling eight ground balls and five caused turnovers for the red, white and blue. McManus had career-highs with five ground balls and three caused turnovers in Detroit Mercy's win over Furman and then added three ground balls and two caused turnovers as the Titan defense notched 14 CT in Sunday's triumph over Wofford. She added one goal and one assist in Detroit Mercy's victory over Furman. She is fifth on the team in ground balls (23) and caused turnovers (11), adding nine points offensively.
Detroit Mercy has won five of the nine SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors, earning another two on the defensive side of the ball.
The Titans return to the field Saturday for a non-conference contest with Coastal Carolina at Noon from Titan Field. Detroit Mercy has two more home games left, also hosting No. 8-ranked University of Michigan from Titan Field on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Both games may also been seen live via ESPN-Plus for a monthly subscription fee.
