DETROIT (1/10/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse program has announced that
Peter Moore has been elevated to assistant coach on head coach Megan Callahan's staff. He previously served as the graduate assistant for the program.
"Adding Peter to the coaching staff is going to help this program tremendously," Callahan said. "His knowledge of the game and tactics will bring a new spark to our style of play and push us in becoming a more threatening and dangerous team. The enthusiasm he brings every day is going to ensure we have fun while getting to that next level!"
Moore was an integral part of the Titan success last season as Detroit Mercy captured a share of the regular-season Southern Conference championship as well as the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament. Moore, who worked closely with the Titan goalkeepers, helped mentor goalkeeper
Allison McDonough, who was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference following the 2018 season. In all, the Titans swept the postseason awards, seven players earned All-League honors during the 2018 season and the Titans went 10-8 overall, 4-1 in league play.
"I am excited to become apart of this great group inside of
Calihan Hall," Moore said. "From the athletic trainers, marketing staff and
SIDs, to the front office and everyone with coach in their title, we have great people here and I am proud to become apart of this culture.
Megan Callahan '13 has given me this opportunity to work with her and I am looking forward to continually develop this program with her.
"We had some amazing success last year and I hope to help continue that. This year we have a team that will turn heads, be dangerous, and most importantly be fun to watch on the field."
Moore was previously the head men's and women's lacrosse coach in their first seasons as a sport at Clarke University, an NAIA school in Dubuque, Iowa.
He was the leader for both Clarke lacrosse teams from Jan. 2016 through May 2017, mentoring more than 40 student-athletes on campus as well as preparing practice and game plans for both squads, among other duties. Moore was a two-year assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Indiana men's club lacrosse squad as well as a two-time captain for the same Indiana club lacrosse team. He was a high school All-American in the state of Illinois in 2009.
The Titans are entering their 11th season as a program and first under head coach
Megan Callahan '13, who played for the program from 2010-13. Detroit Mercy opens the season on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Ohio State.
