NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN interim head women's basketball coach Lindsey Foster has announced that Ashlee Guay has rejoined the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
"I am so happy and thankful for the opportunity to work with Coach Foster at CSUN again," Guay said. "I am excited to be able to inspire, support, and mentor our student-athletes. Although it is a unique situation this season, I am looking forward to what the future holds for this program!"
Guay, who served as an assistant for the Matadors from 2017-19, spent last season as a Mentor, Fellow, and Group Tour Coordinator for Beyond Sports in Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica. In her roles with Beyond sports, she helped design a program that helped advance young women in sports and global leadership through the execution and development of the Girls Leadership Academy for Service & Sport (GLASS).
"Our entire Matador family is thrilled to welcome back Ashlee Guay to Northridge and CSUN as a member of our coaching staff," Foster said. "Over the last couple of years, Ashlee and I have discussed her desire to continue to impact student-athletes positively, both on and off the court. I did not hesitate to reach out to her when the opportunity presented itself. Ashlee's competitive spirit, hard-working attitude, and positive energy are tremendous. We are looking forward to her sharing all those outstanding attributes with our current and future Matadors."
Guay was part of the coaching staff that saw the Matadors return to the NCAA Tournament in 2018. CSUN would clinch the tournament berth after winning four games in five days during the Big West Tournament. She will resume a role on the Matador staff that will include working primarily on the court with the CSUN guards."
Guay graduated from CSUN in 2015 as one of the most decorated women's basketball student-athletes in school history. She is among the top five in CSUN history in points, assists, three-pointers, steals, games played, starts, and minutes played. She never missed a game during her CSUN playing career.
As team captain, Guay helped lead the Matadors to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015. Playing point guard, she averaged 13.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Her accolades included being named a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist, the 2014 and 2015 Big West Tournament MVP and to the All-Big West Team all four seasons. She was named the Big West Player of the Year as a junior. At one point, she was one of seven players to lead her school in career points and career assists before Channon Fluker surpassed her career point total.
After graduating from CSUN with a Bachelor's in Child Development, Guay spent a season playing for the Rutronik Keltern Stars in Germany before coming back to the United States, where she returned her focus to working with children and athletes. As an Academic Coach at High Tech High Elementary in Chula Vista, Calif., Guay spent the 2016-17 year working with students as part of an inclusion program creating independent education plans and facilitating accommodations in the classroom.
Guay has also worked with athletes and students in the past as a youth basketball coach, basketball camp supervisor, student mentor, and camp counselor.
Guay is originally from San Diego and attended high school at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace. She was a three-sport standout for the Pilots, competing in basketball, swimming, and track & field. With her father Norm serving as her head coach, she was a four-time All-City selection and three-time Western League MVP. Guay helped lead her team to three-straight league titles.
"Anytime I am recruiting, I use Ashlee as an example of what we look for in a Matador," said Foster. "She is someone who truly loves to compete and will do anything and everything she can to help her team win. On behalf of Matadors everywhere, it is our pleasure to welcome a CSUN all-time great and Matador for life back home to help us win even more championships."
