Magnifying the Beauty of Science!

Great science deserves to be seen! It’s #StemCellfie time again and we’re looking forward to celebrating you, your fellow scientists, and the incredible microscopy images that showcase both technical expertise and the natural beauty of cells.

Enter your favorite microscopy cell image by 11:59 a.m. PDT on Monday, June 29 for a chance to win a #StemCellfie prize package.

Winners from each of the following categories will receive a prize package:

STEMCELL Employees Top-Voted Image: All eligible “cellfies" will be entered into the STEMCELL-employee vote.
The Popular Vote: The top 60 images from the STEMCELL-employee vote will contend for the public popular vote. Images voted into the top 20 will receive a prize, including a magnetic puzzle of their image.
#StemCellfie Newcomer Prize: Newcomers to the competition may also enter a random prize draw.

Image Submission Requirements:

Your image should be rectangular, if possible, although it may be cropped square for display during voting
To ensure a top-quality printed puzzle image if you win, aim for an image resolution of 1700 x 1700 px
Include only the cell image within the frame (no legends, titles, scale bars, or other text)
Only one image per submitter will be displayed, so please submit only your favorite image
Both newcomers and former #StemCellfie entrants are welcome to enter the contest (just ensure that you submit a different image to previous years!)
Images must have been created by you without digital or AI enhancements

Contest Guidelines

Submissions
By submitting, participants consent to their image being used by STEMCELL Technologies in promotional content related to the #StemCellfie Contest. Submissions of human- or animal-derived cells will be accepted. Submissions must not contain any scale bars, legends, titles, or other text. Submissions may be disqualified from the contest for reasons including, but not limited to, being of low resolution, artificially generated or enhanced, or of non-human or -animal cell type. Image submissions from previous #StemCellfie contests will not be accepted, although you are welcome to submit new images each year. STEMCELL reserves the right to disqualify submissions from parties with a conflict of interest with STEMCELL Technologies. You must own the rights to your image. Submissions will be shortlisted for public voting via an internal STEMCELL employee voting period the week before the public vote begins. Newcomers to the #StemCellfie contest can check the “#StemCellfie Newcomer” box on the entry form for entry into a random prize draw; contestants that have entered the #StemCellfie contest in the previous 7 years will not be entered into the #StemCellfie Newcomers Random Prize Draw. Only one prize per contestant; contestants cannot win prizes in multiple categories.

Winner announcement
Popular Vote Grand Prize, Top 20, STEMCELL Employee Vote, and Newcomer Random Prize Draw winners will be announced on STEMCELL’s social media channels on July 17, 2026, and contacted by email during the week of July 20, 2026.

This contest is open to legal residents of all countries excluding mainland China, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, North Korea, and Cuba, who are 18 years or older as of the date of entry and who are able to accept the prize without violating the terms of their employment. Void where prohibited by law or institutional policy. STEMCELL reserves the right to seek verification of eligibility to enter and receive a prize under these rules. STEMCELL Technologies may release the winners’ names and reproduce the resulting content in educational, news, or promotional materials, whether in print, electronic, or other media, including on the STEMCELL website and social media platforms. By participating in this contest, you grant and assign to STEMCELL the right to use this content for such purposes. This contest and any matter arising from it shall be exclusively governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada. We reserve the right to disqualify and/or remove votes from entries with suspicious voting behavior, including bot-like activity. Other conditions may apply.
