Representatives vote on federal laws, advocate for their districts and work to secure federal funding and other resources for constituents.
The governor is the state’s chief executive, signing state bills into law, overseeing numerous state agencies and advocating for the state on the national stage.

The Illinois Senate is the upper chamber of the Illinois General Assembly. These 59 members of the State Senate represent the legislative branch of the government. They create and pass laws, set the state budget, raise and lower taxes and work with the governor and state to enact, amend or repeal laws.
The Illinois House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Illinois General Assembly. They create and pass laws, set the state budget, raise and lower taxes and work with the governor and state to enact, amend or repeal laws. There are 118 representatives, who serve two year terms.
