Congress must protect newly arrived Afghan refugees
Since United States withdrew from Afghanistan, over 200,000 Afghans were evacuated to the United States in a chaotic withdrawal that left many behind. Many of those now in the United States only have temporary legal status as they start a new chapter of their life in every state and corner of this country.
The Afghan Adjustment Act (HR.4895)/Fulfilling Promises to Afghan Allies Act (S.2679) will offer Afghan refugees in the United States a path to permanent legal status, after years of living in legal limbo and anxiety. If Congress fails, countless Afghans will be forced through other burdensome legal and backlogged asylum processes; they can also be vulnerable to detention and deportation.
We need your help to urge every elected official to pass legislation without excuse or delay. The United States owes the Afghan people a debt and we must ensure it pays that debt.
