Socioeconomic disadvantage and dementia
Individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged areas are underrepresented in dementia research. This study addressed this gap and identified the need for continuity to maintain identity; the paradox of healthcare support falling away when it is needed more; challenges with navigating healthcare; and uncertainty about where dementia sits within primary care. Results suggest that clearer communication and proactive support from primary care may improve experiences for patients with dementia, particularly in areas of socioeconomic disadvantage.
