Japanese electronic experimentalist Coppe returns once more to her Mango and Sweetrice label with a lengthy album of contrasting collaborations. ‘Void’ ranges from the bizarre to the sublime, often within the space of a single track. ‘Fire + Ice’ combines video game slap-bass licks with the freakishly pitched-up vocals, while ‘Strawberry + Tuna’ recalls the surreal atmosphere of David Lynch’s work, seemingly describing some strange cyber-saloon bar. The album’s mellower moments are well-handled and provide an effective foil to its whackier parts, the fuzzy ‘Sleeping Pill’ is somewhat like Flying Lotus at his most relaxed, while ‘Introvert’ takes the edge off a Footwork template to create something woozy and sultry.
