1950s Suburbia idealism filtered through a 1960s cartoon show filtered through the 1990s. An absolute mindfuck. The 90s influences feel just as quaint now as the 50s ones did then.
The plot is simple, and they lay it all out for you in the first scene; that's efficiency!
Remember when they used to build sets for movies?!

Uh..... Holy shit.
First sequel to really take the concept and layer in real depth and meaning to the concept of the hunt.
I was kinda worried I'd rated the first Predator too low at 4 stars, but after seeing this, I see why I gave the headroom.

Best actor to play the Predator since Kevin Peter Hall in the first two. Really nailed the physicality. This Predator actually seemed to be consistent in a way they so rarely are.…

Annie Potts does two Toy Stories as a pretty stereotypical character archetype, gets put on the bench for 20 years, and comes out absolutely crushing it as this character piece on a woman finding herself post separation.

Forky's intense desire for oblivion is amazing.

Jeez the rendering of surface materials went absolutely crazy since 3. Real beautiful effects on basically everything.

Showing to the kids... I was only 70% tuned in while doing some chores. Something about that meant I kinda saw how it was doing now patented Pixar Emotional Manipulation, and was feeling bumped by it. They sure go so very hard at the finale.

Showing it to the kids... I don't think they really appreciated the themes of Andy growing up and growing out of toys. It's almost like the movie was targeted at the same kids who saw the first in 1995 who were now 15 years older.....

An amazing magic trick to make me feel all sorts of ways (good and bad) about the two leads. Excellent work all around.

Rachel McAdams is so wonderfully funny.

Serious 90s New Age spiritualism going on in here.
I am rocked by flashbacks to the vaporwave era. The poster itself is stimulating memories of a thousand early CD-ROM age digital pictures.

The lawyer was such a caricature, hahaha. Coulda been a little less "ooooh money money money", but I get it, I remember the cultural moment.
