on the movie: this is an absolute bucket of ass
an improvement on maestro, for sure. i really like that bradley cooper has found his confidence behind a camera and can deliver some really mature stories. this isn’t special by any means, and feels pretty by-the-book. but it’s carried by arnett and dern and a sharp thematic edge. it makes you feel good, despite it being about a pretty negative topic. i don’t know man, it’s nothing amazing and it’s not gonna wow anyone, but it was a really easy and enjoyable watch and that’s exactly what they were going for, so mission accomplished.

I won’t lie, I think I liked this a little bit more than ‘X’ and I didn’t think that I would. ‘X’ isn’t the kind of movie that warrants a sequel. I didn’t really need one. But I’m honestly happy we got one. ‘Pearl’ gives us a well-crafted character study that I didn’t know I wanted.
