an improvement on maestro, for sure. i really like that bradley cooper has found his confidence behind a camera and can deliver some really mature stories. this isn’t special by any means, and feels pretty by-the-book. but it’s carried by arnett and dern and a sharp thematic edge. it makes you feel good, despite it being about a pretty negative topic. i don’t know man, it’s nothing amazing and it’s not gonna wow anyone, but it was a really easy and enjoyable watch and that’s exactly what they were going for, so mission accomplished.
