Haven’t seen this since I was a youngling and I’m shocked I loved it as much as I did then! I always wanted “‘splosions” in my sci-fi movies, but something about this one always fascinated me. Probably one of the biggest influences on my taste and love of weird/experimental sci-fi today.
An absolute marvel in filmmaking and so rich with color and atmosphere, this really is more of an experience than a traditional movie. And boy is it an absolute delicious experience at that.

More I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t like the inbred cannibal family trope (well except for the X-files episode).
This is probably the one I dislike the least, it’s just fine. Love Eliza Dushku and there’s some fun moments (the tree scene is so goofy) but not enough to make this something I’d ever want to revisit.

Went into this with really low expectations because I saw the remake when it came out and did not like it at all, but I had heard good things about the original.
Turns out the original is actually fun! The acting is great and the ups and downs of “the stepfather” convincing Stephanie makes for some great tension.
I do think they could have fleshed out the concurrent story of a family member of a previous victim investigating and intertwined…
