Scavenger Hunt Master List | Discord | Scavenger Hunt August Host Raffle
I'm super excited to be hosting this month's scavenger hunt!
- HOW TO PARTICIPATE: make your own list of 31 movies following the prompt from each day of the month with a movie of your choice. When you've done that, make sure to tag it with "scavenger hunt 136" and link your list in the comments if you'd like to! You can find more information in the master list, and if you have any questions, you can ask them in the Discord server. Both of them are linked above!
This is my first time hosting a scavenger hunt, and I've only been participating in hunts since January this year! It's been a great time and I love discovering new movies as well as having a reason to knock out a bunch of them from my watchlist. I hope this list is able to do a nice mix of both for everybody :) Now onto the prompts!
1. I joined Letterboxd when I was 14, which was six years ago. Watch a movie released on the year you turned 14.
2. I love movies that are considered "teen movies" or "chick flicks." Watch a coming of age movie or a romcom today.
3. I love making lists, so scavenger hunts really scratch that itch in my brain. Apart from that, there's a lot of really fun lists on Letterboxd. For this prompt, watch a movie from one of the following lists: list one / list two / list three.
4. In the U.S., Independence Day is the Summer holiday. So, watch a summer movie. It doesn't necessarily need to be set in the summer, vibes are enough. Here are some lists to inspire you: list one / list two / list three.
5. Summer is quite a nostalgic season, and I've been thinking a lot about the movies I grew up watching. The more I think about it, the more I'm sure that Meet the Robinsons (2007) is an absolute masterpiece. For this prompt, I want you to watch either a Post-Renaissance Disney movie or a Dreamworks movie. Those were my favorites growing up and they hold a special place in my heart.
6. I really believe there should be an Oscar for best movie poster. Making a good poster is a lost art, and I have been often compelled to watch a movie solely because of its artwork. Today, let's judge a book by its cover (or movie by its poster) and watch a movie simply because you like its poster.
7. I live for discount Tuesdays, and today is the first of this month. Go watch a movie in the theater or watch any movie released this year.
8. Since watching Obsession, I haven't been able to forget about it. Movies about obsession in general tend to be very interesting to me, so watch one today. This list I found has some good picks.
9. "That July 9th, the beat of your heart" - Last Kiss by Taylor Swift. Watch a movie that features a song by one of my favorite artists, Taylor Swift.
10. I very often think about this screenshot from Addison Rae's Twitter where she very eloquently writes, "music is wow." I agree, and I love a good needle drop! Since the last prompt was related to one of my favorite artists, it's only fair I turn it to you. Watch a movie that features a song by an artist you enjoy. A way you can do this is go on what-song.com, search the artist up, and pick one of the movies listed.
11. One of my first introductions to cinema was when I was a child and my grandpa had the 501 Must-See Movies book. I loved going through it, but to this day I've seen less than 100 of them. Today, watch a movie that is featured in that book. This list contains all of them.
12. My brother is one of my favorite people ever, and today is his birthday. Since he lives in Argentina, I want you to watch an Argentinian movie--they're amazing!
13. I can't have a prompt for Argentina and not one for my own country, Brazil. Watch a Brazilian movie today.
14. While we're at it, watch a movie from your own country as well!
15. I've been really bad at watching movies this summer. Watching a shorter movie usually helps me get back on track—sometimes you're just not up for a 2h30min movie. Watch a movie that's 90 minutes or less. Here are two lists to help you out: list one & list two.
16. A kind of movie I tend to enjoy are the ones that take place over one day or night. Watch one like that! This list should give you an idea.
17. I love playing moviegrid.io . Go to today's puzzle and watch a movie that fits one of the grids.
18. Over two years after its release, I still think about Challengers's soundtrack/score a LOT. It is undoubtedly one of my favorite movies of all time and it's upsetting to me that it wasn't nominated for any Oscars. Despite my unhappiness with the Academy on that, watch a movie whose score WAS nominated for an Oscar.
19. Today is the 2026 World Cup Final! As of writing this list, I have no idea who will be playing this match, but it'd be cool if you could watch a movie from one of the two countries. For now, just watch a movie from one of the countries that are participating in the World Cup this year.
20. One of my guilty pleasures is watching really shitty movies. A bad movie that is fun is 1000x better than a good movie that is boring, in my opinion. This is the kind of movie I'd reach for during a sleepover with my friends, and it's probably free to stream somewhere like Tubi. Watch a movie that has a 3.0 average or less that looks like fun. 3.0 might be on the higher end here, but use your judgment.
21. Okay, if we're watching low-rated movies, I feel I need to add a prompt for high-rated movies so as to not be a bad influence. Watch the highest-rated movie in your watchlist.
22. Happy Leo season, a.k.a. my zodiac sign! I'm not big on astrology, but it is a bit of fun. Watch a movie by a director who you share a zodiac sign with.
23. Last year, I watched Harry Potter for the first time ever. It was awesome. Today happens to be Daniel Radcliffe's birthday, so watch a movie he's in!
24. I have a month left before I start college again, which is bittersweet. Watch a movie either set in NYC (where I live) or LA (where I go to college).
25. Speaking of college, I want to do two more prompts relating to it! I'm a history major, so I'd love for you to watch any historical movie!
26. To finish off the college theme, watch a movie set in college, those are always good fun.
27. One of my favorite questions to ask someone I'm talking to is what their top 4 favorite movies are, and it's one of my favorite questions to be asked as well. You can learn a lot about someone that way, and it creates a fun discussion 9 times out of 10! I can only hope someone will approach me one day with a Letterboxd microphone and ask me about my top 4. Until then, watch a movie a celebrity has chosen as one of their four favorite movies in a Letterboxd interview.
28. Sometimes I find myself in the predicament of wanting to watch a movie with the exact vibe as another movie, but I don't want to rewatch said movie. Then I search endlessly for something with the same vibe and it just doesn't work. Hopefully this goes well this time. Go to one of your favorite movies (or just a movie you enjoyed and want more of) and watch one of the movies that are listed as "similar films" at the bottom.
29. One of the more recent Letterboxd Showdowns that caught my attention was Asterisk City. It might be an odd one, but it's actually kind of interesting and I still think about it. So, today, watch a movie that has some sort of punctuation in the title (as per the showdown rules, these do not include colons, hyphens, apostrophes, and ampersands).
30. Despite not really being a Marvel fan anymore, I will never not love Spider-Man. In honor of the Brand New Day being released tomorrow, watch a movie that features your favorite Spider-Man. If you don't have one, pick any of them: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, or Tom Holland.
31. To finish off, I have a bad habit of adding a lot of movies to my watchlist and never getting around to them. Let's both knock one out. Watch a movie from my watchlist that is also in yours (click on my watchlist -> filter by clicking "show films in watchlist").
If you don't want to do a prompt for any reason, here are some substitution prompts you can use instead:
- Watch a movie that starts with the same letter as your name (ignore articles like the, a, and an).
- Watch a movie that has a color in the title.
- Watch a movie with a title you really like or that catches your attention.
Thanks so much for participating! I hope you enjoy your movie-watching :)
