After binging all six seasons of the Hulu series watching this felt like skimming the cliffs notes. It’s impossibly light on essential context and nuance, whoever thought they could tell this story in a tight 108 minutes is a mad man. Or woman!

Doesn’t get enough kudos. Wild premise, recklessly inspired, super effective ‘self-aware’ tonal shift acting as a blueprint for Scream. A big, risky, mostly unnoticed swing by New Line, eclipsed budgetarily and critically by the massive marketing blitz and success of The Mask, Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura. Brought in even less money than Freddy’s Dead if you can believe it. A big huge winner regardless and a masterclass in jolting new life into a gassed-out franchise.

Well whatta you know, Villeneuve took subject matter I had less than zero interest in, so little it took me 5 years to even attempt watching this, and he got 100% of my eyeballs and my whole-ass, fully immersed, unwavering attention for 3 hours. If I didn’t have to go to work I’d be nose deep in part two immediately.
