End of school

The last week of school....not sure why we plan to accomplish so many things, guess it is human nature to cram all the fun in before the end.
The children have become quite comfortable standing in front of their group and sharing items brought from home.  Parents, we appreciate what it takes to find just the right item, thank you.  The other side of the equation is, of course, that the rest of us need to be good listeners.

But the highlight of the last week of school has to be the Family Picnics.  We were blessed with fantastic weather for both groups this year, and great participation by families.  The children worked hard to make sandwiches and choose just the right chips and fruit for their loved ones.  What a great time to catch up with everyone!  Some of those sibling babies have really grown up during the year.

Magnificent Monday

5 senses week began with a bang...Mrs. Lewis was the teacher today, and it is spring, and we celebrated Sidney's birthday, and several of us finished our masks for the Spring Program, several others made a big car/train to go to the North Pole/California, and some of the toys at the manipulative center can be pretty absorbing, and wow, what a lot of activity!  It was a textbook spring day for the Butterfly class.  Clearly these children have worked together all year, the level of cooperation showed that.  It was a good time for the teachers to sit back and only become involved when we were invited.

Butterfly Release!!

Image

Our caterpillars have come out of their cocoons and were ready to be released.  The Butterfly class let a few go on Wednesday--it was so cool we had to coax the Butterflies out with oranges!  The Caterpillar class watched the release of the rest on Thursday.  It was much warmer and the Butterflies took off!!

Friday the Butterfly class headed to the recycling center to learn more about some of our local community helpers!

Fun with Community Helpers

Fun with Community Helpers.  What an exciting past two weeks.  We had a visit from a police officer.  The Butterflies went to the Bella Vista Recycling Center.  We read lots of books on Community Helpers.  We also released five Painted Lady butterflies into the big world.

Community Helpers week 1

Focus was on policemen as Community Helpers this first week of the unit.  Each class had a visit from an officer who spoke and answered questions in the classroom, then allowed the students to inspect his vehicle.  Handcuffs are heavy, and our 3-5 year old wrists can slip right out of them!  We appreciated it when we had time to cover our ears before hearing the siren.
