As the largest animal welfare organization in the region and one of the only remaining open access shelters, we give safety, love, and hope to lost pets, abandoned dogs and cats, cruelty victims, pets in need of rehoming, and homeless pets at risk of euthanasia in other shelters.
Brandywine Valley SPCA is bringing its nationality-recognized programs and expertise to the District of Columbia. Expanding services include taking over animal control and care, field services for injured and stray animals, wildlife services for the District, along with intake diversion, adoptions, and basic animal medical and wellness. Working with DC Health, the BVSPCA will be able to serve the communities of the District by ensuring that stray, lost, and injured animals receive the care and treatment they need.

After more than two years in our care, our longest resident and staff favorite, who spent time at multiple campuses, found his furever home in April 2024. From Florida to a loving home, Snoops adoption story is a heartwarming reminder of what love, time, and care can do. In February 2022, this sweet boy was brought to us from an overcrowded shelter in Florida. He spent time at multiple campuses and in foster care, where he learned to trust and relax with other animals. Finally, in April 2024, Snoops family found him and gave him a new home. He has been making lifelong memories with his family, including enjoying life outdoors and snuggling with his cat sibling. Happy tails to Snoop and his perfect match of a family!
That may seem like a big number, but every dog and cat in our care enjoys individual enrichment until adoption, such as our daily dog playgroups.
