I realize I haven’t posted in weeks. All is well, there just seems to be no time. I also wanted to attach a belly pic to this post, but didn’t get a chance to take one. I will though. Soon. Let’s just say: Big Belly!
In a nutshell:
Medical stuff: all good (blood pressure, glucose, no edema)
Work: I’m still working part time from home. My ogre boss is as mean, cold, evil and stupid as ever. Her ability to keep her thumb on me is astonishing. As a result, I will likely work another couple of weeks and then say piss off. Well, I’ll say it much more professionally than that, but basically I’ll be done until after my maternity leave. When I return, if nothing has changed, I’ll be applying for the first available position in any other office in the Department to get away from her and her equally ogre-ous chief.
Weight: I lost one pound in the past 2 weeks. Gaining was easy when I was working in the office and eating lunch out all the time. Fortunately, my total weight gain is about 40 pounds already, so I’m still doing okay. Now please pass the ice cream.
Back: aching – most of the time. I know, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
Sleep: restless, uncomfortable and overall just crappy. I use numerous pillows, still doesn’t do much to help. Hips hurt. Ribs hurt. Name it. It hurts. Par for the course, so I try to grin and bear it.
Babies: wiggling, kicking and in motion! Baby Girl (current weight at 3 lbs 4 oz) is on my left, breech with her head up under my ribs, facing my back, feet down). Baby Boy (current weight at 3 lbs 9 oz) is on my right, head down, facing my belly. When I turn from side to side, whichever baby I am lying on at the time lets me know in no uncertain terms that he/she does not like being squished. The doctors tell me the babies don’t mind, but I’m telling you, they object!
Names: Not really. Working on them. When I mentioned to my mom two names we are considering for our boy, she wrinkled her nose, sniffed, and said she didn’t like those names. Nice response, eh?. Good grief. They’re nice, normal names. Not like we’re proposing to name him Poop Toot or something.
Big Scout News! Scout had been showing signs that he might be nearing readiness for potty training. I’m a big planner, you know. So I thought to do some research on potty training methods, then I’d develop a Big Plan, including a schedule and a routine. I’d share the Big Plan with my mom and Mr. BWUB so that we are all on the same page, and hopefully begin implementing said plan in a month or two. All very orderly and under control.
But my mom decided to take matters into her own hands (um, thanks for consulting with me about that, ma). Father’s Day weekend I had a bit of a painful back strain event (okay, I was fully immobilized on the couch for 6 hours, popping Tylenol to the recommended limit). My mom took Scout to her house so I could rest.
While at her house, my mom put *big boy* cotton undies on Scout, asked him often about using the toilet, and just held him over the toilet when he needed to go. That evening when he came home, he had a few accidents. But in the week and a half since then, Scout has progressed to being pretty much potty trained!
He has a little Bjorn potty chair. He tells us when he needs to go and is able to wait long enough to get him undressed and poised (standing and straddling) over the chair to pee. He also notifies us of the need for BMs and has had success going in the chair. He wears big boy Mickey Mouse underpants and only wears a diaper at night time (which is generally dry when he gets up in the morning, but I’m afraid not to use it). He is so darn cute in those little big-boy undies!
Oh, and one awesome thing about minivans: I took Scout to the park yesterday to meet with my dear blogger friend Fran, at Everyone Else But Me and her family, visiting California from Ireland. It was wonderful to meet her in person after *knowing* her since before Scout was born. Anyway, I brought the potty chair and set it on the floor between the two middle row seats. While in the park, Scout announced he needed to go pee. The minivan was spacious enough to allow him to use the potty chair in the van! Awesome not to have to use a public park restroom.
Wow. Okay, I guess he was ready to do this and didn’t need my Big Plan! He did ask once to wear diapers instead of his big boy undies, but I suspect he was just testing to see if he would be allowed to wear the diapers if he preferred. I told him he can wear whatever he wants. He didn’t ask to wear the diapers again (although he accepts the night time diaper without question).
I tell you, I’m going to put him in charge of teaching his younger siblings how things are done.
I have a question for the twin mommies out there. One thing I still need to get for the twins is a new video monitor. If anyone has a suggestion for a camera system that allows you to see babies in two separate cribs (two cameras or one camera than can pan/zoom?) I’d appreciate it.
All in all, things are going well and I’m just counting down the days, while at the same time relishing these final weeks with Scout as our only child.
